Everyone on this site lately has gone full unicorn. What on earth is going on! Predictions of minor premierships, people waxing lyrical about "the direction we're going in", and the "great signings (!) under 'Rylsey'".

Let's recap, shall we? We were rejected by Bennett and McGuire, so we signed a coach who's never coached a single game of NRL before, we almost got the spoon this year and have recruited no one of consequence except Lomax. Moses is injury-prone and Gutho is broken. Dylbags is amazing - just not when you need him to be. The club has a decades-long losers' stench and the players lack endurance, toughness and footy smarts.
We are now in yet another rebuild phase and will be lucky to finish the season higher than, say 12th or so. Going by recent history, we should expect to make the GF in about 2030.
That's how I see it. What am I missing? Why all the hype?

Predictions of minor premierships, to be fair that was pops bold prediction - the old man has been battling away with chronic hemorrhoids for years so go easy on him.. some have been cautiously optimistic and other like myself upbeat about the work Ryles is doing - time will tell, nothing wrong with a positive outlook. The hype is looking forward combined with the end of the BA era that's my take.
I don't have a hemorrhoid problem Mickey, I can only assume your spelling is correct. No need to go easy on me, I am used to to dealing with arseholes notwithstanding. One thing I can tell just the same is identifying a licker when I see one.
I am sure that I am not the only one that see's that.
Patronisation is not a skill or something you should need to focus on, i'm sure everyone see's your predilection.

Pretty well. Don't forget our 5/8 has damaged his ACL and will likely pop it early in the season. Plus we have lost our best forward and our board and CEO are still muppets.

No one is predicting a premiership soon. But it was obvious change was overdue.
Ryles was sought after as a Head Coach. Storm wanted him as Bellamy's heir, so it's a bit rich to dismiss him as a clueless rookie. So far we've seen some decisive moves and an acknowledgment that we have weaknesses we need to fix.
Cautious optimism is better than persistent pessimism.
Some people prefer failure for the reasons either it proves them right about certain things, they have an agenda against a certain factor of the club and do not want them succeeding or simply it is more fun to complain.
