Who’s your forward leader?

  • BA wont walk out on his highly paid contract to nothing, and Gurr wont sack him out of pride, it was his decision to resign him afterall.

The only light at the end of the tunnel will have to come through recruitment or the end of administration.

In the press conference BA in a roundabout kind of way talks about our mental weakness. The team train well and dont turn up, or something doesnt go their way and they drop their heads. Last night our forwards gave up massive metres with no line speed.

Other then a front rower or two we desperately need a forward leader to keep our pack honest. About 5 minutes into the second half I saw a well liked second rower literally walking off our line a number of times, all be it on the blind side he was only one out from the ruck. Who amongst our forwards has responsibility to have a word? Im not sure we have anyone smart enough to see whats happening and do something about it.

Either we hire Geoff Toovey as water boy, or we recruit our version of Cam Smith or Paul Gallen. Have we got someone like this or who should we go after?

  • As a club we struggle to attract top tier players and with a decent crop of young players I think we need to add some experience to our pack so not sure player like Lodge who  plenty of people think we should get is what we need.  A strong defensive player like Glasby would have been ideal however someone like Prior would also be a good pick up.  Not being a super star Prior wouldn't have earnt the money of other star fowards and could be enticed with decent contract offer.

As a team we make plenty of metres and are amongst top teams for metres gained so the line bending forward isn't a priority over a strong defensive player.  I also noticed not 1 player really scrambled in defence when the ball went past them last night with only shark jerseys near the ball once they broke the advantage line.  When Bronson xerri stepped back in for his try the defence should have easily shut that down if the middle and edge defenders didn't clock off.  Hopefully Nathan brown has some influence here but I can't see our defensive issues being fixed this year and unless we have some solid recruitment it will haunt us next year as well keeping as as fringe top 8 contenders.

If we can recruit a solid middle defender which is cheaper than explosive fowards  to lead our middle defence it would allow us to spend more money on a strike centre and fix our attack.

    • Prior would be a great signing to replace Mannah or Evans. Plenty of stamina and steps up in the big moments. He was great in origin and the sharks finals campaigns.

What do you reckon about Josh Reynolds as a backup hooker / utility. Tigers trying to punt him, could be cheap, has plenty of passion, and will help develop Reed’s game management

  • This has been our downfall since Cayless and Hindy retired. A bloke who has a big motor and hates being beaten. There hard to find and unfortunately BA and Sharpie couldn't  identify him even if he ran them over in the carpark. Whoever becomes available with those credentials will almost certainly be missed by these two.

  • Geoff toovey that all he be good for i think cam smith be a great coach i think we should offer him $600.000 a year for 5 years contact to coach us when he retires

    • The storm probably agree with you mate, they’d have him lined up to step in under Bellamy as the next in line once he retires. Wonder how old Bellamy is?
