Who now??? SKD is off the market

Hi all

Long time reader and thought I can contribute quite a lot on here so thought I should join.

So here goes with my first blog

I know everyone on here has thought long and hard about Signings we need to make for 2012. And one of the biggest assets we need is to sign a high profile, quality outside back.

In my opinion the best outside back that was on the open market for 2012 was SKD and that opportunity has now passed. I know it is still early and 2011 hasnt even started yet but if sit back and wait to sign a quality player they are all going to get snapped up by other clubs.

Just want to hear everyones thoughts as to which outside back we should sign now that SKD is no longer an option.

  • Chris Lawrence or Blake Ayshford from the Tigers. Both are still young and have a wealth of top grade experience now. I think both are on the market after 2011.

Kearney may be able to lure either Duffy or Nielsen from the Storm but not sure of their contract status.
  • I think Lawrence would be overpriced to be honest
  • Tigers are working on retaining Lawrence long-term as we speak, so that's probably a long-shot.

I agree on Duffie though depending on his contract situation, as he is a great young player.
  • I'd sooner take Lawrence at 350K than SKD for that price. And I doubt the Tigers will be able to play much more than 300 for Lawrence considering the other players they have to accommodate in their cap - Benji, Farah, Ellis, Lote, and the yong'uns like Dwyer and Fifita they will need to upgrade to keep them....

I'll be dumbfounded if the Tigers manage to hold on to both Ayshford AND Lawrence.

    • Lawrence wont leave the Tigers this early in his career. Even if a team offered Lawrence more than the Tigers (im talking within 50K) I couldnt see him leaving.
    • i have no idea how they are under now. that u put it that way.Never thought of them

  • Are we not going after Tonga.... 7 is the priority anyway. Kind of a catch 22 IMO. You can buy a gun centre but without a gunn half you won't get much out of him. SKD is a prime example.
  • everyone was saying with SK as coach we'd recruit alot of star NZ test players for next year but SK has no drawing power with the kiwi players in the last week two of the kiwi players he was after resigned with their clubs which were harrison and SKD.  We won't get luke either i'd say this year our recruits will all be fringe NZ  test players like Sau and Ben Roberts

  • Oh God! The thought of the Eels signing Ben Roberts gives me a headache!
  • I would take Geoff Daniela any day he knows how to find the tryline easy very underared player
