Where to as a Fan

I'm not someone who posts a lot or shares much, but I'm always reading and lurking. I started supporting the Eels in the early 00's, never seen them win a grand final (I guess many haven't), I've only witnessed the 09' GF. Today I took the young ones in the family to their first ever game excitedly recruiting new Eels fans (they had a blast), do I set them up for a lifetime of failure? Every year it's the same storyline, the same scenario. I'm not having a dig at the players, coach or front office, but as a club, how do you continue to support them? I've turned up every week for more than 15 years never missing a game. I've been a member for almost 10 years, but every week win or lose I just notice I care less and less, I guess is the spark gone, or is it just the fact I deep down I know I won't witness a premiership.

They sold us this premiership window, this squad could go all the way, we are losing a chunk of them, without recruiting any stars. The best our recruitment has to show for their efforts is a busted up, 30+ year old hooker.

Older heads who have endure 30+ years of failure, how do you do it?

ps to those who want to come after me, dont bother.

  • I view it as a comedy. It's better for my mental health.

  • You've got to just hang in there, what if you walk away and we win it? That would be a waste.

  • Nice post, I feel the very same way mate.

I've noticed a decline in my interest since the Wooden Spoon in 2018, for me I think changes should have been made and as a club I don't think we have progressed at all since 2017.

For me, the coach and style has become very stale and mundane, Brads press conferences are as boring and monotonous as all this rain we have been having lately and players at the club haven't been held accountable for poor performances etc.

Add to this that players act like spoilt brats these days instead of playing with passion like Hindmarsh which makes it harder to become attached to them.

The new ground is good but I was in love with the old Parramatta Stadium, for me that was home, some of my passion was probably lost with that too.

  • The more you suffer, the more it shows you really care. Right?

    • Yeh eh eh

    • Haha great song, Randy .

  • Its only one loss for fuck sake!!
what, have you been following league for 2 weeks?
not always the better team wins.

    • It's more than just 'one loss'. It was a defeat by the team on the bottom of the ladder with the worst attacking stats. They humilated the Eels.

      • I agree, mentally it's like losing five games because you turn up expecting to win.

      • Yeah and it might be the good kick in the arse these players need.

I wont be ripping my hair out yet, dont have enough left to do that.

        I wait and hold judgement.
