Where there's smoke there's fire ?

Daz Lloyd's blog "Bulldogs make a play for Mateo" makes me wonder. Mateo doesn't see eye to eye with Daniel Anderson. Inu seems, or seemed to, have an issue with DA.Should we be surprised ?D.A. has a suspected history of fall-out with Islanders with the Warriors when he was head coach there. The theory I'v heard, many moons ago, is that Islanders are quiet and don't assert themselves whilst Daniel Anderson is obviously bluntly assertive. Walla. Friction. Fall-outs. Inuendo.Enter Jarrod Hayne and Foiy as Exhibit's A & B, showing DA can work with Islanders & bring out the best in them, whilst the Brett Finch saga suggests DA personality clashes extend beyond Islanders to more outspoken characters, that don't tow DA's line & perform to his expectations.Still, recent results suggest DA's approach might be just what the eels really need as suggested by Inu in a recent blog. Maybe it's just the kind of friction required to rebuild us back to a premiership heavyweight - aka theories about diamonds and friction, you can't rebuild by dismantling at first, etc, etc........blah blah blah....Maybe DA's tough love approach works - despite any casualties that may or may not occur. I hope so and I also hope players of Mateo & Inu's ilk and potential aren't lost to the eels.My honest feeling is Ossie might be the one who helps override any personality disorders that DA may have.Thoughts anyone ?

  • I really like the comment Inu made when he said he and DA were now on the 'same page'. It's like any business that someone has to run when there is a change over of leadership. Staff that have been around aren't always going to like a brave new day. If this story is true and Mateo wants out... I wish he'd stick it out as maybe we'll need him. But maybe he's just upset because he's been on the sideline so long. Either way it's all just speculation until the truth comes out. Let's hope...
  • i cant see mateo leaving parra. Just a another beatup. To me, it sounds like somebody seeing mateo talk to a bulldog official at a bar by chance meeting and assuming the worst
  • Good points guys & maybe DA's apparant issue with Islanders is just a case of misconstructed co-incidences. I hope it is just a media beatup. Daz, got to agree with you on Michael's blog about Inu and DA being on the "same page". Warmed my eel heart.
  • These kids think that they are gods, especially with a coach like Hagan who lets them slacken off.
The fact that DA has had fallouts is simply because the players aren't used to being told what to do... after all, isn't that what coach should be doing?
Once these immature players get over their egos, play to a game plan and join the real world they will start to achieve results, thankfully it looks like Inu has done that... let's hope Mateo can do the same... fingers crossed anyway.
  • I remember there were reports last year that when Michael Hagen tried to get tough there was a revolt from the Islanders in the team. I even remember people writing on this website that we should sign Steven Kearney because of it. Personally, I think that to win a comp you need to hard, mentally and physically. If the players can't handle a bit of disipline, then IMO they are not players that will win you a comp and we would be better off without them regardless of their talent.
  • Maybe the Finch saga does not extend beyond Islanders,he did sneak into their photo a while back.(Finchy a true Islander)
I can't see Mateo going anywhere,he loves Parra............
  • RealEel & ZipZip, Interesting comments, Hagan admitted on the Footy show (or whatever is was) that softness was his achilles Heel......................DA is the opposite & remember what he said........'IF INU PLAYS THAT WAY EVERY WEEK THERE WILL BE NO TALK OF HIM LEAVING'...............If that's not an ultimatum, im a monkey's uncle. I think that's what DA demands. Attitude. Uncompromising toughness Or get out.......Inu has responded...Now, what's going on with Mateo & DA - why the talk of him leaving ? Early in the year Mateo, outside of Hindmarsh, was our best. Hayne wasn't anywhere near the form now. Does DA think Mateo has an attitude problem ?
    • Spot on PM
  • DA does not have an issue with Islanders, he has an issue with players giving it 100%, it just so happens at the Warriors the players who weren't putting in were the Islander boys and for that reason they didn't get along. It was more an issue to do with effort, rather than ethnicity.

Inu has been accused of not putting in here, as has Hayne before and Mateo and they're islander boys. Hayne speaks highly of DA and thinks he is what the Eels need. Inu has said the same thing recently...both have been inform as its been said too because he's started to bring the best out of them. The issue of him not getting along with the Islander Boys is BS, it's just coincidence. His issue is with players giving it their all, not ethnicity.
    • Well said cgee!! - DA is just what the Eels need after a couple of years of crap - DA is a straight-shooter & a Parra boy to his bootlaces - PPP!!! - It takes 18 months to change a culture at a club & the same to bring it down. Hagan was a decent bloke, but he screwed Parra after the discipline of the Smith years. Next year, or the year after, I can smell success!! -
