Where do go from here?

A top four finish is nothing to complain about but with the way we ended our last game, there are some things that need addressing. Another long off season is here and I'm sure there will be plenty of juicy blogs in the near future but just wanted to get the thoughts of members of how we get better in 2018. Feel free to share your opinions about the 2018 season and beyond. Who do you sign? Who do you release? Where are we lacking? Is this BA's last year if we miss the 8?

  • We need better forwards. Including a 9
  • We need to put in 80 min performances. So many games we looked comfortable but didn't go on with the job and ended up just winning or on occassion losing. Our poor for and against was testament to that. I hope we gained valuable experience in the semis but that will have to wait and see how we handle them next year. Need to definitely improve our mindset when going into games as favourites too!
  • I think we will be just fine next year. With french, gutho returning and evans coming we should be decently placed. Mosses and norman will also have a full pre season together aswell and I have a feeling semi might come back quiker then we think
Sure we dropped out of str8 sets but we were rorted in our 1st game and many tipped us not to even make the 8 at the start of the year.
  • we need 1-2 props + a decent backup. Vave needs to work on his fitness or shouldn't be in the side. I've always been a supporter of mannah but he just isn't giving the team what he used to. Matagi was very inconsistent. terepo barely made it on the park and although had strong carries, his handling is a worry. Alvaro has continued to improve each game and see him having a long career with us.

we need a hooker. Kaysa isn't up to scratch and has never been. on top of that he isn't a controlling hooker, just a running hooker which isn't what we need with the two halves we have. King will do his job but not sure if he has signed on for next season yet and if we have cap space it still be a good area to look into.

other than that our backlines decent as are our backrowers. might need a winger as a backup thou.

    • Couldn't agree more mate.
  • Who going to be the new trainer for 2018 now that the 'cougar' has gone? At times during the season the team looked unfit so I'm really hoping the Eels provide an really good trainer for 2018. I also think another number 9 is needed in case King gets injured as KP is not the answer. I'm also not a favourite of Corey Norman as I don't think he turns up to the important games when needed and perhaps it's time for him to move on and get someone else but not sure who at this time.
It was for me a very disappointing end to the season although the Eels made the top 4 and I still think the turning point in the final series was the game against the Storm which I honestly felt the Eels were duped by some very poor refereeing decisions and after the loss of that game they didn't appear the same against the Cowboys.
It's going to be a difficult year for Brad Arthur to get the team motivated after this year but I still think the Eels will be there come September, 2018.
  • We must make the 8 at least and BA must address the issues were we get beat by teams we should beat and the poor performance we put in on our last game. Both Pritchards need to go and we need a couple of forwards that will put pressure on the ones we have. Other than that we should be okay as long as BA learns from his errors in team selections and if certain players are not playing consistant than drop them as we have good depth in most positions.

  • The two finals games were a direct correlation to our entire season from start to finish.

In games we are the under dog (Melbourne game), we win (I understand that didn't happen due to some dubious calls but a win was certainly possible outside the ref blunders), and games we are expected to win (cowboys game), we play terrible and lose. Nothing changed from the season proper to the finals.

Conclusion the Parramatta team as a whole are mentally weak.
  • Lots of depth may help you reach the finals, but the big name players help you win the finals.
  • The important thing for the club is to remain positive. Talk about who we turf out if everything goes backwards does not help anyone. BA and the players know there are some things that they need to get right, and I feel that last week's game will be the catalyst that makes that happen. If we were purely outplayed there would be a different mentality, but the truth is that we should have been good enough to win. We lost that game due to some dumb play and the players need to learn from that.

Next year we need to improve in big games, especially those we would be expected to win. We need to be more consistent in our approach to games, with the sort of professional attitude that the best teams have. We are not far off. Considering where the club was a few years ago, we have improved immensely.
