Whatuira desperate to repay the faith: AAP

Premiership talisman Paul Whatuira is desperate to repay the faith at Parramatta, but isn't promising yet he can win the competition with a third club....

"When Parramatta gave me the opportunity to come and play for them I was rapt," Whatuira said.

"I didn't have many opportunities come my way at the end of the season last year so hopefully I can repay the faith Steve Kearney's shown in me.

"He's a quality coach, he's got a great record.

"(Playing with him) he had a lot of mana, he just had an aura about him, I just grew up watching him play and having the opportunity to play alongside him was one of my highlights."

It is great when you hear players saying they want to contribute and want to play well for his coach.

Get the rest of the team in the same mindset and Mr. Rothfield may get one right for a change.

The closer it gets to "kick off" the better it is sounding AND without anyone boasting or bragging - just commitment.

I'm actually eager to see Whatuira play, and how his play may have changed since his days at the Tigers, and especially in light of incidents in England that coincided with the birth of his first child, which made him realise he had to change his ways.

I think Whatuira still has something to offer our club, and it's great to see that he is committed to playing, and is just eager to get on with things.
He was a handy player during his years at the Panthers and the Tigers, so hopefully he can emulate some of the form from those years.

Can anyone explain what "mana" means? I assume it may be a Maori term.

More than handy is Mr Whatuira. If he can get his act together off the field, then on the field he can produce big time (consistent, reliable). Sound familiar.....
