What will be an acceptable result this week?

I anticipate getting beaten at home this week (even though I still hold some hope of winning) against the Storm. For whatever reason, the Storm are just too good this time of year for everyone. The fact they have never lost a Rnd 1 game under Bellemy proves it, and the way they crushed the Bunnies last week was very impressive.

This brings me to the question - what will be an acceptable result this week? What can we reasonably expect?

I ask because the knives are already out for BA and a loss on home soil is going to be cannon fodder for his haters.

For me, I'd like to stay within 10 points if we can't win and I don't want to see a blow out score. We have to compete. I also don't want to see our right edge defence get ripped open at will. If we do that, I will be able to live with the result at this time of year.

  • Munster will be licking his lips lining up against our right edge. Absolute carnage is my prediction.

  • If we can make an arm wrestle of the first half and stay within 12 points, we'll have a chance of winning in the second half as their big forwards get tired. That's if we punch it up the middle with offloads galore.

My gut feel is though their fast men and playmakers will destroy us in the first half.

  • Mate I think a loss by eels of 10 points or less like you said should be acceptable however it's not really the points when the scores are close but the effort behind them that is the most important I believe. I would love a win at home but it is a big ask . A win will send the haters and doomsdayers into early winter hibernation to be replaced by late summer sunshine positive contributers to this site .

  • The rain might help but we are going to cop a flogging so under 40 would be nice

  • Realistically this is us playing at home and we have less of our Top 30 out than the Storm do so if we consider ourselves any chance this year we should be accepting a win.

There's no excuses - this is our turf. We had the same preseason as the Storm. We were Top 4 with the Storm last year. The Storm have lost probably the greatest player to ever play the game in Cam Smith.

We need to stop this mentality of a loss being acceptable. It's not. We all know what edge they'll target and the players they'll use to target it - so we know the gameplan going in. We have to be smart enough to come up with a gameplan to combat it.

I'm definitely on the unicorn spectrum...but I get really fed up with this ingrained losing mentality that we have as Eels fans. And I'm not saying I'm any different, because my first response to this was "losing by 10 or less" until I deleted it angry with myself for writing it. We need to win, anything less and the knives should be out, not just for BA but for the entire coaching staff and any player who doesn't play smart and effective football.

    • Very well put Cappy, everything you said is right.... I expect us to win.

The physcology of the people writing about margins of losing etc says more about their own fragility as people and where they see life...... my guess they were the same people that said Vlandys will never get the season restarted (last year) and christmas won't happen (last) year because Santa won't come out in the pandemic.

They are so scared of being wrong that they will always take the pessimistic route because it takes no effort to go that way!

Don't let your children feel like that, encourage them to have a go and think optimistically about what ever they want to achieve even when at first it seems a little too difficult.

      • Ohhh the irony of your statement - the psychology of people writing about margins of losing etc it says more about their own fragility as people and where the see life.

You, Poppa, are a pseudo intellect who constantly seeks validation of your own smarts by being derogative and condescending of others - that's a by product of your own insecurities.

The shame of it is this - you actually do add value with some insightful perspectives at times. Problem is, you almost invariably undo it by being insecure about it.

I'm a firm believer that your social and emotional IQ's are the most important; stop being a knob and give people a chance to appreciate the valuable things you say.

        • Pops you should read this at least 10 times.

          • 365 times a year.

          • I did read it 10 times Snake and still have no freeking idea what he was talking about.

Is there an Interpreter in the house?

Not even Easter and he is talking about cancelling Christmas for some reason - SHEESH!
