Since the new TV deal has been announced today I thought I'd start up a blog to ask, where do you think the money should be spent?
I'd like to see the talent pool deepened so that by the time the next TV deal finishes there's more opportunity to bring in another team into the NRL. One way we can do this is expanding the 16's, 18's, NYC, NSW cup, and ISC (or whatever the equivalent will be). If we are going to go with state based open age competitions we need to be make it truly state-wide rather than focusing on just the areas that currently have an NRL team. We need to have country teams and players regulalry competing at higher levels than they are. I'm going to only focus on the NSW aspect as that's what I know best.
I'd like to see the Western Pirates given more money so that they can bring in a 16's team to compliment their 18's team they currently run in the SG Ball. As well as having teams that represent the different regions of NSW. This would mean that the: Central West (Parkes, Orange, Cowra, Bathurst), South West (Wagga Wagga, Albury, Hay, Griffith), NSW North (Armidale, Tamworth, Gunnedah, Moree), Mid North Coast (Coffs Harbour, Kempsey, Foster, Taree), West (Dubbo, Cobar, Broken Hill, Bourke).
All of these areas will be able to play at a high quality each week. This will not only create more players that NRL clubs are exposed to but could also create a larger fan base for these areas as they're finally getting the community involved. Would also be good if Sydney clubs, that don't currently take a home game away to a rural area, are made to take at least 1 home game away to these areas so that they have at least 1 game of NRL a year.

Mate I am peeved channel 9 get the rights again, and think channels 7 & 10 could have been good options. I also saw the rounds are reduced to 25? Does that mean one less bye? I'm personally over the channel 9 commentators and find it crap and full of b.....s...t.most of the time.
Surely fox now could pay less for the pay TV rights as they have less games?
NRL clubs would still be able to bring the players that they want into their teams. This sort of competition would be for players like Bevan French who aren't ready to be picked up by an NRL club at a young age but are still playing regularly with players that have been picked up by NRL clubs at 16 onwards. It also has the added benefit of less kids "falling through the net" so to speak. At the moment in the 16's and 18#s there's 289 kids running around in each competition playing what could be considered the highest regular competition for their age group in NSW. By adding in only these 5 teams you're bringing in 85 more kids playing regular high level competition. Surely having these extra kids NRL teams are bound to be able to pick up 2-3 more back-ups than what they currently have.
Another thing that money should be put into is expanding first grade squad sizes. Atm we only have a Top 25. This should be pushed up to a Top 34 at the least so that teams are able to hold onto the young players who are on the verge of making first grade.
different teams representing different regions? won't work.
I'm not too sure on this system. I think that NRL clubs should only have to focus on the players that they want to. Sure they can give money to a certain club if they want to lure the players but I'd like to see the CRL have ownership over these teams rather than specific NRL clubs.
If you want to endure some nagging move back in with mum and dad. Give you a week and you will have scratched that itch - though you may have lost much of your hair!!
Anyway you seem like a top bloke, funny as hell too.
Sounds like you two would be a perfect match.
