What's up with the NRL. Hmmm

Only 18,355 supporters to the game last night. TV audiences down. What's the real reason for the sudden disenchantment with the game?Is it . #The officiating. #the laws of the game. #the wrestle. #the niggle. #interchange. #uneveness of the salary cap and third party agreements. #betting agencies perceived influences over the game. #the way the game is played these days in camparison to how we grew up. #the coverage. #the commentators. #the games leadership. #club bias. # judiciary #grass roots. #hidden agendas . #personalities. #the fact that the same teams make the eight year in year out, bar one or two bolters. # Cost. #scheduling. I'm sure I've missed plenty of other issues. Being a league and eel tragic since I can remember, I find more and more I get less excited about games which don't involve my eels.I use to watch every game live or the replay. I'm lucky to watch three these days. In my case ,I get frustrated with the overall package. I never minded the officiating if the better side won. These days it that isn't the case. I used to know what a try was.what a knock on was. What a shepherd is. The game seems to be run now by individuals with vested interests. The game I love , with blue collar roots is now run by corporates. I understand with the money involved that's always going to happen. You must still listen to your fans. No fans no game. The fans are getting louder with objections with the direction of the game. The nrl isn't listening. So their voting with their feet and eyes. The independent commission is a joke which do nothing other than gorge at the carcass of game.do your job and arrest the fans concerns.

  • Why are you surprised????  The Rooster have no fans, hardly a surprising crowd on their part, same as Moanly.

Sadly the well supported teams like Parra,St George and the Tigers didn't make the finals.

  • All of the above. :)

Commentators don't help. Tallis, Fittler and Johns are crap. Those post game interviews were pathetic. One trying to get something controversial out of JT. Obviously didn't care if he was fined. The other was so biased he should have been wearing the roosters mascot suit.

Plus having your team out of contention doesn't help.
  • Derr.

The swans were playing....to almost 50k I might add.

    • So the Swans were down 10k on last year???  Not just RL are struggling with crowds.

    • Would not be surprised if it ends up the NRLs dream grand final Dave Smiths roosters vs Todd Greenturds bulldogs.
  • Still not bad for an NRL city though Al.

    • They are a one team town mate, and the TV rating's in Sydney would have been beaten by the test pattern.  The Swans have done well to carve out a niche market in Sydney but thats all they will ever be.  Once the AFL stop unfairly giving them an extra million a season and they come back to the pack watch them struggle like Brisbane have.

  • Apart from all the above I would add 1 - more time wasted on video refs, scrums, waiting on injuries etc. They stopped a game for a few minutes last week for a player with a cramp!! WTF. The game is becoming too much like union with all the niggly penalties and stoppages. This plus all the above you mentioned makes league a far less attractive spectacle.

Crowds at most sports are down for 1 simple reason. MID STRENGTH BEER. FFS bring back the full strength alcohol and all the laricans will return to the game instead of watching games frim a pub or their man caves.
    • Mid strength beer is a big reason a lot of my mates don't go to games.$10 bucks a beer in a plastic cup. Bring the eskys back and back come the fans.probally more streaking and lewd behaviour. Definately more fans though.
    • A few mates and I had planned to go to one of the semis this weekend. But we have decided to go to a pub instead. This is purely based on the beer/alcohol served. We don't go to get shit faced but we certainly want to have a couple of beers and enjoy ourselves.

I reckon if Semi, Haynes or Sivo had persisted in the NRL we might be talking about them breaking the NRL try scoring record. I think Semi and Hayne were close to 1 try per game average over 100 games? Thoughts?

"Exactly right we have enough versatility to adapt to circumstance.
I still see Jnr as the pack alpha though there are times during the game where it loosens up to much and he gets exposed.Ruck control is so important in the modern game more so now…"
