  • I thought we put too many forwards on the field at once. At some stages 6/9 were props or back rowers.
  • Contrary to a lot of the arm chair experts opinions on this site, Corey Norman is all class. Easily the most important and influential player in our 9s team. Cornish looks rusty. Toutai- oh dear! Folau still looks lost. Morgan same old mediocrity. King looks promising. Bevan French looks very light and still a while away but showed great signs he'll be handy. Semi looks like he's gained a fair bit of confidence and I think he's in for a big year. It's pretty hard to gauge any real form from the 9s tournament though. I'm with you, please no injuries!
  • As it's a '14 team we played like it. Those backs we upgraded are still the same as they've always been.

Slow start and lucky to win the second.

But there have been some standouts, French, Manu, Norman, Semi and Gower

Its nines and as we've seen with other teams, you need the bounce of the ball to go your wall to win.
  • The good players (certain top 17 starters) have been great imo.

As someone else said - the perennial plodders are still very much plodders (no surprise there)

Sorry Phil but I can't see 2016 being Morgan's breakout year - he still looks frightened.

What was with all the one out stuff in the first game? It was ridiculous.

French looks the goods, at least in 9's anyway.

Apart from Normie I don't reckon anyone has played near thier best - that's promising for tomorrow (depending of course on how much pi$$ they sink tonight)   :)

  • Not sure we can really take anything out of a nines tournament. I heard Nathan Brown on the radio earlier making comments about how the team hadn't even really trained for the weekend as it takes too much time away from normal training. I am hoping BA has taken the same approach.
  • I just wish we would throw the ball around and not kick the ball regularly, the storm game was so frustrating for that
We have plenty of speed and good hands
    Use them!
  • French is well suited to the format but would only cut it as a FB in FG. Too short to play wing and would get thrown out trying to score tries. Comparisons with RTS & Holmes aren't fair ones as they are much taller and bigger. He does have a huge future at our club though. Our roster overhaul will never be complete until Kelly, Toutai, Morgan, Folau and possibly Terepo go. Sorry, but they are too risky to have in the side and can't be relied upon like we can Gower, Alvaro and other depth players. Hard to say whether King is a genuine FG hooker based on 9's footy. The only players I am really watching are the ones who may make FG and haven't had much of a chance (King, Nelson, Woods, French, Faraimo, Cornish). The others fall into top 17 or very close (Gowie, Norman, Semi, Junior, Manu, Tepai) and the rest are the plodders we need to move on (Toutai, Kelly, Morgan, Terepo).
    • As much as Terepo is still I risk I think its unfair to lump him in with those other players.

He is improving (slowly) and is solid depth for us.

    • Possibly, but I wouldn't want him on the field up by 6 with 10 to go in any game. You pray every time he gets the ball for him to just hold it. That's when you kniw it's an issue/liability. Give him this yr then move on if his hands are still poor. No seffa may help him get less hospital balls
  • I think the playing group looks really really fit. That's the biggest thing I am taking away from this bit of touch footy. Also I've said it before but semi has very good vision and that gets underrated at times. He can provide a try as well as score one.
