My question is about players and how highly they value winning the Grand Final. It is easy for fans to say they would do whatever it takes to increase the chances of premiership glory for the club they support. If the players had the same attitude, winning competitions would become more achievable. If you could somehow get your top 10 to 15 players to agree to 10% less salary it would result in an additional $600,000 plus to spend on other players. If your top 2 players are worth $800,000 each, would their life be much different or more difficult if they earned $700,000 per season? Would the difference in their $$$$$$ outway the enjoyment and satisfaction of winning a premiership or two.

That's the problem Slip.
In the 80's it was pride and a will to win that drove players.
Now it's all about the money. I get the feeling with a lot of players that, win or lose, we still get paid.
Back in the '80s and before most players spent most of their careers playing for the club they came through as juniors. Because of this, players seemed to have more of an emotional connection to the club. Unfortunately, these days players are more likely to play for whoever pays the most.
I have always said, my opinion of a player doesn't change because of the color of the jersey he is paid to wear.
How are we supposed to change the players attitudes when our courageous captain (gutterson) used the media twice to gain contract leverage against the club, and cried to every media outlet that we lowballed him.
The first thing that needs to happen is to fark Brad Arthur off on Monday
The second thing is to fark Gutherson off even if we have to pay the bastard out.
If this doesn't happen asap, we'll be in trouble for the next 5 years minimum. Forget the top 4 top 8 even top 12. Well be battling in the bottom 4 absolutely guaranteed. Ill guarantee everyone that we'll be bottom 4 in 23 and ill bet that the board take the easy option and back ba.
It all starts from the leader slippery and Gutherson has been one of our most selfish, and brainless captain's of all time at parra.
I think gutho has been totally enabled from BA UNDER a diff coach who doesn't feed his ego I think he would play to his optimum level. He is a hard worker who has been given a very long string
dont throw gutho away cos he is joined to the hip with BA
LETS see how he goes under a better coach
Long live the spaniel!
Exactly
we believed in the spaniel
mine is 16 deaf dumb and blind and still ok
gutho will thrive with a diff owner
That or be shipped on to Super League.
Im not sure which spaniel would win a foot race at the moment, Carlo...The 16 year old pooch or the $800k Eels Captain, but they share the same ailments -deaf and blind!
No, the damage has been done Gutherson has to go. In successive contracts he used the media to gain leverage. Theres no doubt a heap of players are leaving because of his selfishness.
Gutherson is getting huge overs IMO. Without thinking about it too much, Gutherson would rank no better than 6th and could be as low as 8th or 9th against NRL fullbacks in 2022. His salary would suggest he is in the top 3 fullbacks running around. Moses is another player getting overs. What Moses has going for him is the lack of top-level halfbacks in today's game. Above-average or middle-of-the-range playmakers these days are in the game at the best time. Moses, if playing in the 80s or early 90s would be rated at the bottom end of halfbacks.
Although I'm no BA fan these players have to be accountable and show pride in the jeresy - there's a lot of moving parts for club to get right and we seem totally distracted I can't see much improvement.
