There are some songs, that just blow your mind the first time you hear them and you just think .WOW! Then you find out they are actually covers of pretty good original songs. Here are a few of my favourites.
The following cover I knew from Gary Moore's original, but fek me, it is just spectacular.
The following song by Rainbow featuring the late ,great Ronnie James Dio,just had me in tears first time I heard it,it was so beautiful.
This song was recently covered by The Scorpions for the Dio tribute album, and their vision is also sublime. But I heard another version that had me laughing at first ,but it has grown on me.It is by a very famous and talented Greek singer,Notis Sfakianakis who usually kicks arse with traditional Greek music. He also loves his rock.He has covered Deep Purple's "Soldier Of Fortune" with a very strong greek accent, but on this live performance his English pronunciation and elocution has greatly improved.
Now from the sublime to the truly awful, there is a long standing precedent of popsters vivisecting great tunes with really awful results.Recent travesties include some silly bitch murdering Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody" and Mike Oldfield's "Moonlight Shadow" was given the full,gay,doof-doof treatment by Cicada. The funniest,"bad" cover for me is Devo's total shite version of the Rolling Stones classic,"Satisfaction"

Johnny Cash's rendition of Hurt is hauntingly beautiful. The original by Nine Inch Nails.
Coolest version
Hallelujah by Buckley is another.
Cash smashed it.
Don't know but i heard a cover of the Goanna song Solid rock by an aboriginal band on tv a few months ago, great Australian song that gives me goose bumps when the girls come in on the chorus, great song.
