What is a Pass Mark for 2020 Eels.

Theres a lot of discussion recently about our Eels, and now that they showed what they can do at the back end of this season, our expectations as supporters has grown.  This year is considered by most as a successful year, but im not sure that next year i would be happy with a  5th placing. Considering we have Governance reform, the new Bankwest Stadium "Paradise", the Kellyville traing centre of excellence, An improving coach, Players in key areas getting finals experience, a Halfback that in my opinion will be very close to the top of Dally M player of the year voting. What are our expectations in 2020 for our team and what would be considered a winning season.

Did we over achieve this year on the field or should we expect to be a real player next year in the competition. So what do we see as a pass mark in 2020.

  • in 2020 I expect a top 4 finish and a possible premiership - nothing less. We have a small window of a couple of years to win the comp and should not be wasted. We can't be going backwards.

I don't think we over-achieved at all. In fact I thought we could've gone 1 more week deeper in the semis.

  • Top 2 and prelim at the least.

    • I agree. We must always aim higher and better in everything. Being a consistent top four threat challenging every year. Always adding 1 to 3 Top tier players regularly.

  • It's a tough competition and unless you have a roster advantage like the rosters and storm it's extremely hard to expect to be a genuine contender year apon year so take nothing for granted.

For me top 8 again would be a minimum requirement but unless we finish top 4 we haven't gone forward as a club and that would be disappointing and could be considered a failure.

  • the Eels had a quite easy run during the season, only playing Storm and Roosters once. With a tougher schedule it may be another story.  I would imagine next seasons schedule will almost definitely be tougher. If we make it 5th to 8th next season I think we will have had a successful season.

  • I think top 4 should be the aim.

Honestly, we need to be top 2 if we want to have a real red hot crack.

We know how good sides are at home. A guaranteed home semi with a second chance is a big leg up at this time of the year. We have seen it at play this year and how important it is. It is too hard having to win 4 on the trot from outside the 4, imo top 2 is where we need to aim.

  • At the begining of the year i thought we were overachieving, based on last years performance, but then when we got into the semis, i changed my mind and thought like Axel, we could of gone further. When i look at our players on paper and compare them to other teams on paper, i get the feeling we are around top 8. So im still not sure yet what my 2020 expectation is. I get the feeling we are on the up as an organisation and a team though......

  • Finish top 4 at least and be competitive against Roosters and Storm

  • Its simple, a pass mark is going better than this year, better than 5th and better performance in the finals, improvement.

We cant keep on having an ok year then going backwards, we need to start building and genuinely getting better.

The good teams are up there every year, we need to start showing some mental toughness and winning away to get a pass.

We need to stay strong in the areas we are already strong in and improve the rest.

The bar needs to be raised.

Does this feel well run and a real chance for youngsters to get a leg up?...or a money spinner for Jarryd  posing as helping youth and "giving back"

Whens the last time you saw any Parra winger come charging through the middle of the ruck like this Macy that's the type we should be looking for and he's not just running over anyone either."
