Wet weather structure

I haven't given up on Morts making a good number seven but on a night tonight, he just can't run the show.

I think when its wet and we're not likely to get second phase play we need to play a simplified game. Instead, we've got four halves out there and nobody knows who to take control.

Whatever you say about KK he has enough confidence to run the show in that situation and in that type of wet night I think we would have been better served just to one bloke at the centre of the action. On a night like tonight if you're going to keep those four you'd even be better served with Robson 7 Humble 6 KK 9 and Morts 14.

We needed a much better running game out of dummy half so you'd get that as well.

I think its important to keep in mind though, that what doesn't work in wet, slippery conditions, can work on a dry night where we have good second phase play.

Honestly, there is no point necking yourselves after a game in those conditions.

  • It wasn't just Robson who needs to take responsibility for that. The outside backs went missing in that regard as well. Timana may as well not have come back on, he was just missing psychologically for the rest of the match. We missed Guru big time. Another factor to keep in mind as to why you can just draw a line through the match. You start every set of six like shit you're never going to get any decent go forward. The only opportunities we had were on the back of errors.
  • the conditions really were not that different to the storm game. I was at both games and only difference i really noticed was parra stadium holds up to the rain a little better. the fact is the knights put on the worst performance i've seen, it was only the fact our attack is so terrible that the knights did not get flogged. if the knights played the dragons or penrith tonight the score would have been 40+ to nil. The knight threw nothing at us tonight. At no point in the game even when on our 10m line did i feel they were a chance of scoring. Sadly it was the same with us too. On their 10m we simply looked confused. We need to make changes yet again to our combination. We simply don't create points with KK,Morts combination. Even games we have won, we have only just won. after 15 rounds we are yet to give any team a touch up.
Mortgage Parramatta stadium if you have to, we need to sign Cooper Cronk.

the 6 - 4 score line wasn't a reflection of great defence, it was a reflection of DISGRACEFUL attack. we could bounce back and beat the broncos next week and all may be forgiven, but fact remains until we have halves who can create points, we are never gonna be consistant and be a real threat in the competition.
    • Jamesy, the Storm game was completely different. It stopped raining 2 hours prior to the game and it was a warm evening. Was near perfect by kick off. It was pissing down just prior to kick off tonight.

I don't think its the creation of points that is so much the problem as taking control. We need one of them to step up and say give the f&$cking ball to me, I'm the man. The problem is we're directionless.
  • I would move Morts to hooker long term. KK I believe has much more to offer at 6 or 7.
  • I don't think mortimer or keating have it in them to be the man. Time to give Humble more time in the halves and see if he can step up, play kk at hooker.
    • Humble is a classic five-eighth IMO - I can't see him at halfback.
  • Yep I dont often agree with you Sinbad but that decision to give Burt a kick would have to be one of the most dumbest ridiculous stupid decisions ever!!
  • Wow... the first ever post that cristices Burt....

I hated him at fullback but he is a great winger but not a yardage winger.... I'm ahppy with his game... but..... you simply don;t go for 2 if you can't kick the frickin ball dead... simple!!!
    • in his defence, did the the same kick against the storm and nailed it. i was surprised when he missed, he hardly ever misses those shots. it just wasn't our night.
  • Just on Burt I love the guy but we have a theory around my group of mates that whilst he is a good goal kicker he has a poor record of kicking the goals that really matter.

He will kick 6 out of 6 at parra when we are flogging someone but he missed 2 crucial kicks last night - can happen but just an observation.

I am not saying he never kicks those 'clutch' goals but I'd wager his record isn't as good as most other long term kickers.
