Well timed penalties

I watched the panthers game vs dragons on the weekend and I noticed they used the roosters tactic from the last last couple of years whereby they would give away penalties to allow their defense to reset. They did this very well in the first half in particular and in my opinion it prevented at least 12 points.Did anyone else notice it? Our attack is struggling as it is and i am concerned we will find it very difficult to combat it because refs dont send players off anymore.

  •  Gutherson did it when we were under the knife with Corey's miss kick.

IMO Giving away purposeful penalty should result in a 5 min sin bin.

    • Ye have to agree. Regardless where on the field they occur, or the state of play, a deliberate penalty is a professional foul and should be binned.

    • Very true gutho should have been binned.

But i dont think it was a deliberate team tactic per se unlike the panthers in their game against the dragons.
    • Gutherson copped an absolute spray from Foran for doing that. Honestly he went to sleep on the bloke and I was surprised he wasn't sent to the bin! That would have put us even more pressure.

  • We may be struggling a bit in attack but look at the fire power we have in the side. It will start to click soon and it would take a very brave team to start giving us deliberate penalties near their own line.

  • Did anyone else notice Foran give him a spray right after it?  Loved the passion to win from foz.

    • Yeah watched the game again last night and noticed Foran going off at Gutho. Great to see.
  • It's a no brainer. Especially if it's on the first couple tacked. Its basically a penalty against the team who gets the penalty. Allowed defence to get set and give them a lil break to rest.
  • Cowboys did it 2 or 3 times inside their own 20 against the Broncos. Why wouldn't you esp against the Broncos early in the tackle count when you know they will take the 2.Rather give away a penalty and 2 points rather then 6

    • Don't think a deliberate ploy by Cows, thought a few of those penalties definitely home town decisions by refs. Cows got penalised for flop in front of their sticks and Broncos kicked goal. Late in second half Broncos did a very late flop in front of their posts and guess what, NO penalty to Cows. Refs definitely favoured Broncos at home.
