One of the reasons I refused to buy into the Stephen Kearney bashing for so long, is I believe he is a thoroughly decent and hard-working man. And I've got to say his press conference today and the way that he handled his departure was all class, and it was a shame that we once again had to leak this news in despicable fashion any subsequently made that press conference and the announcement far more difficult than it had to be.
Another of the reasons for my support was all of the good things I've been hearing about what has happened with the club over the past month at our junior levels. People are quick to write that off, but take it from our club captain Nathan Hindmarsh that things have changed for the better in that regard. I hope Peter Nolan stays on board and we continue to develop our grass roots with a mind towards producing NRL players. I hope we don't take a scorched earth policy and destroy some of the good work that has been done prior.
In my view, Kearney never hid from the press or criticism. He showed up for television interviews and put himself in front of the fans after the game, at the AGM and the Fan Forum. And I thought he always answered questions put to him honestly.
He failed as a coach, but he never let himself down in my view as a gentleman and somebody who really did throw his all into the job, and I thought the humility he showed with his departing press conference was in keeping with his time at the Eels.
Can I ask if you want to have another bash you use another thread. I think the poor guy has copped enough, and I can't imagine copping all the stick he has would have been easy for him or his family.

Another good post, 1eyed. Yep, he seemed a decent human being.just some of the basics of coaching such as defence technique and speed, passing speed , organisation of attack were just not good enough.
I think all in the club were just willing him so hard to succeed. All true supporters were hoping he would just launch into a string of wins. Never happened but as you say, he always carried himself with dignity.
Nice blog. If things had turned out a bit better in 2011 (where we lost about 10 games we should have won), we might have had more momentum leading into 2012. As it stood, 2012 has gone very badly, but it is not from lack of effort from Kearney. I wish him well in the future, and hope we can replace him with someone who can build on some of the foundations he has laid in terms of junior recruitment, if not defensive structures.
Thank you Stephen for the good work you have done for our juniors. Always conducted yourself with profesionalism and demonstrated a great work ethic as you always appered to continually try and to do your best. Although a failiure as a coach I'm sure you have learnt the hard way that even though there is a lot of effort that doesnt always ensure results. Good luck for your future endeavours SK thanks for giving it a ret hot go.
Yep, a nice guy no doubt... And we know what they say about nice guys....
But back on the leaks to the media again - these constant leaks coming from our Administration are a disgrace to the organisation. They couldn't even give Kearney the chance to go out with a little bit of respectability by letting him announce it on his own terms. Shame shame shame. And nothing will change on and off the field whilst these imposters are in charge I'm afraid.
how have i gotton 2 leaks in two days, i wont mention the name, but i will say that he is a director at the club, his name was mentioned in wizards blog on the article on directors.......i will say that he has a very close association n friendship with Glen Duncan.....this bloke is where most of the leaks are coming from.....end of story
He wasn't the right fit for us and it's unfortunate for all that it didn't work.
I would like to hear that he is staying on to develop our juniors and be a part of the future success of our club.
If you were SK would you want to stay at this club after they couldn't keep their mouths shut so he could at least announce he is leaving on his terms, I certainly wouldn't want to stay at parra.
Definitely well done! I read the Fox Sports report of the press conference, and he was such a professional. I hope the players (especially the newer ones) can find some confidence from the positive things he had to say :)
If only he could coach..
