Well Done Cadel

I don't know about you but I love my cycling. I've watched previous TDFs and none of them compare to what I've watched over the past 3 weeks. Everyone says that Footy players are some of the toughest people in the world, now don't get me wrong I think they are very tough but cyclists are the toughest people in the world. The amount of pain they go through whilst riding is immense and it doesn't help with the crashes. Many of the riders ride injured, this year a rider named Johnny Hoogerland was bumped by a support car and thrown into barbed wire. Not only did he get back on his bike he wore the King of the Mountains jersey fir 3 days and rode into Paris on Sunday. He needed 35 stitches to repair his leg. Now back onto the title of the blog. It was unbelievable watching Cadel ride through the mountains. He rode most of them without alot of help and he was prepared to do it on his own. He chased anything that moved and in the end he proved he is the best rider in the world. Congratulations Cadel, Australia is proud of you.

  • Well said M8.
    Congrats to King Cadel!
  • Agreed SE.

I think in Cadel's favour this time round, what really helped him - was a solid support crew.
I think kudos have to go to George Hincapie - the man who was at the Discovery team for the 7 years where Armstrong won the Tour De France.
He made a huge difference setting the pace at times, and really getting Cadel on the front-foot.

Those last few mountains stages though, Cadel was on his own, and performed brilliantly.
As for the time trial, well, I don't think much has to be said about that - other than the fact that he blitzed it.
  • Hincapie did what he was there to do but I think the forgotten man is Marcus Burghardt. He kept Cadel out of the crashes and he was the one who helped him out when he had the mechanical problem on Stage 19. Cadel was the best rider of the tour and the best rider won. Just 2 quotes to finish: 1. Cadel's tactics for the Time Trial "Start as fast as possible, finsish as fast as possible, hope it's good enough." 2. A quote from Muhammad Ali which I think suits Cadel "Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them: A desire, a dream, a vision. they have to have last minute stamina, they have to be a little bit faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill."
  • Well done Cadel.

"EA, challenge for you to name all 18 hahah.
Funa-Iuta, Talagi, Fletcher and Coinakis are surely four. Then Polley and Talataina mentioned that's six. "
