That's fair enough I don't have an issue with not wanting to over pay none at all.
Thing is then Jim how are you going to go about attracting elite talent to a club that's screaming for it.You've allowed 2 to walk what's the plan to replace such talent becomes the question.
Competition is tough with 2 new teams entering the fray they will overpay they have salary cap advantages so again how do you attract elite any talent to a club that's not a destination.
If your not overpaying then what's the plan Jim JR and everyone else involved in recruitment and retention.Balls in your court show the fans your plan execute something don't sit back and let the fans down continually.Don't let the media spin continue to make the club look incompetent come up with something anything better than what your coming up with now because whatever it is it just isn't it.

If they did forecast not only could we have kept Brown but Keon and other missed signings could have come to the club also.

our handling of Dylan's contract asking him to remove clauses and not upping his contract by 100k was pure rubbish! How much did we waste on a new signing...400, 500 or 600? And we still haven't got a vital posi sorted! Clearly, JR was only new but seems he wanted to start afresh perhaps or was he overruled?? Either way, reckon we were made fools of in handling of the Dylan case in player managers eyes:(
If we believe what other reported payments are for elite and top players, and whats reported in media, then we have purely got rocks for brains. Always has, and always is more than put out by top destination clubs.

Its a catch 22 you only become a destination club when you are regularly in the finals every year and a genuine GF contender maybe not every year but at least are in the Frame......
I can only see dire dire times ahead with this mentality ....unless we unearth an amazing crop of pathway talent all in one cohort....like the team of the 80s or even early 2000s......thats almost impossible.

There is overpaying then there's over overpaying. Some are saying just give Herbie what he wants doesn't mean we go bizurk. We over pay by $100-300k maybe.
You say pay overs for Keaon but then you are heading into $1.3mil plus. I think that is way to excessive where Dragons already over over paid for him. His max market would have been $1.1 there abouts.
We have to over pay but if another team already overpays then we should not just keep going up and up to get them as for example Xerri would more likely needed to go $700k, that's a way to big over pay.
So yeah overpay but also don't go above and beyond where it stuffs your cap so much that you cannot sign or re-sign other players you want to keep or bring in.
So is his opinion on not overpaying outdated? Yes, they put themselves in that position where they need to. But doesn't mean you overpay those who are already being offered an overpay either.
Our fortunes dramatically change if either Galvin or Kolomatangi came to the club, should've overpaid.
