We thought wrong!

In this morning The Sun Herald Scott Seward explains that Jarryd Hayne not obliged to return to the Eels as most of us thought. He explains that his contract would have been up at the end of the year. Parramatta have made it clear that don't want to see him playing for another NRL team, but they can't rule that out. But in saying that Hayne did indicate at the time he would like to return to the Eels if he returned to the NRL. Seward said there is no room in our cap to fit him, but he also believes no other team would have space either. There would have to be dispensation given to any club by the NRL trying to sign Hayne.Thought I'll share!

  • Why would he come back to us as we are a bunch of loser.

I think he will play Rugby as i think that game is more suited to his style.....

  • If he did want to come back he should be a gift to us for all the times we've been screwed over.On a different subject kinda ,I always thought that bulldogs and storm who both went on to win the premiership within a year or two of being caught cheating, should of had all their contracts torn up and made to start again under the proceeds of crime act and players to go on the open market .Anyway it would be great to get him back and im sure when we are winning games we will be a better chance of getting him.
  • I haven't seen a link to this but assuming it's real for a minute...

This is a major worry. I like really Seward, he has done some great stuff as NRL CEO. Cudos to him for his innovation and hard work. But I'm sure he said that Jarryd would only come back to us. Which is different to what's in the article. Very different. Call anybody recall exactly what was said?

Perhaps this is the reason why he's on the outer with Parra?

And I'm fine with that if that's the reason, because (if true) he's done pretty shoddy job of negotiating Jarryd's exit and letting the fans know about the possibility of his return. I'd be cranky if the board weren't up in arms.

  • The timing is interesting.
  • Well Tin Tim, we thought wrong because I'm 99.9% certain it was SS himself told us wrong.

Very poor form SS if this is true in light of your departure.

  • Disappointing if true. However, even though Hayne has always been very well paid by Parra, the reality is that he could have received excellent money elsewhere to play at a more successful club. It's alway been a strong element of staying at Parra because he was well paid, he played with some close friends and he came through the grades. His departure during his contract also has a bit more to it, nothing sinister.
Furthermore, any return of Hayne is mere speculation. Any club would require dispensation as none would be keeping that sort of cap space free in the hope of securing him. My only concern would be the NRL attitude to Parra asking for dispensation given our salary cap issues. I would imagine a response like "you're kidding!". I have no faith in an even playing field. On reflection I'm sure that the Roosters would have cap space!
    • Roosters, there team full of stars & rep players yet there the only team that's being link to him due to the media.
    • 60s he was our only marquee player.
I know we all love to believe in loyalty but the truth more than likely is we were prepared to pay him well over the other sides so he stayed. If the dogs or roosters offered him more than us by say $100k/year in your heart you know he would've walked if we didn't at least match it.
He was our highest paid player and no one would've out bid us for his services.
  • Sounds like you're referring to just yourself their buddy.
  • Don't know how to add the link.
