We should be happy regardless of this weeks results

There has been an endless amount of negative (and sometimes ridiculous) blogs/posts since the Newcastle loss. Losing sucks, and losing the way we did, really sucks.... however every win and loss needs to be put into context. We were never a top 8 team to start the year. I always thought 2 games outside the 8 would be a good result, with an average injury toll.I think in the washup we copped more than our share of injuries, losing Peats, Mau and Hoppa for extended periods. The signs are there that the team is 100% on the right track. Hayne and Sandow are playing mature footy. Sandow is definately turning into the type of halfback we need. We have uncovered at least 1 elite winger, we have an Origin centre and a number or forwards capable of playing Origin quality footy in Peats, J Paulo, Pauli Pauli and Meroa.I archilles heal is defence. IMO we are not a long way off from getting this right in the forwards... the backs make me worry. The hardest challenge for a first grade coach is not making the 8. It's not cutting players and rebuilding. The hardest thing for a coach is making a top 4 side a GF winner.IMO, this year was never about making the 8. it was not even about rebuilding. This year was about finding the right pieces. I am really excited about this year regardless if what happens this week because I think we have the right pieces.Hayne, Peats, Meroa and Junior Paulo are/will be elite players. Pauli Pauli, Hoppa and Sandow should be elite players. I think top 4 is more than a year away however we are going to have a mature kick ass pack in 2016 that may get us a title. If we miss out this weekend it will really suck. I don't think it will make a difference to our medium term success.

  • Great blog mate, you've actually made me feel somewhat happy, and we all deffinantly sit back and be happy, that atleast for the whole 26 rounds this year we had something to fight for, unlike the previous years where it was all over after 8 rounds
  • Top blog! We forgot we relinquished the spoon sometime back this year and we'll see how things go this weekend.
  • Teams looking good. Just need to get rid of some weak links for next year ie Joseph Paulo, Morgan and totai. I think a as should put Pauli Pauli back in this week. I'm guessing BA dropped for maybe being complacent otherwise I'm not sure why. He could use the experience of these final game/games going into next season where I think we'll need him in our team.
  • Agree on all points, the years been generally good, ive been proud to be an eels fan again, theres good times ahead because theres some genuine signs that we are driving away from the darkness, i think we will make the lower half of the 8 next year barring bad injuries.

The whole feel around the clubs better.

  • I'm happy with our season regardless of making the finals or not.... It just sucks that provided Storm win we have to wait till the last game of the round to know our fate.... gonna be a long weekend.

  • It's been a long time for the eels towards the bottom of the ladder.

We've had a good year but isn't it about time we were at least pushing for a finals berth?

Good times ahead and we've made massive inroads both on and off the field in 2014.

This off season may be the most settled off season we've had at the club in years and all these young forwards have had a year in the NRL and will be even better come 2015.

  • Good blog  YDIDISAYIDO and all valid points. I hope we win this weekend to validate all the good work that has been achieved this year. A loss to Canberra would leave a hollow feeling, especially if it gives Pricky any satisfaction for what has been a dismal season by another STUART coached team.

  • YDID once again you are the voice of reason. It has indeed been a great season. My only regret is not sharing a beer or two with you throughout. Maybe before Christmas if Phil organises something. Cheers mate.

    • A beer or 2, or 10, sounds good. Unless we win the GF.. we will celebrate much sooner:)
