We need more than a coach whisperer

This might backfire on Kevvie if they don't win this series.....and please refrain from suggesting that this bloke could work with BA because we need more than he can offer - we need divine intervention!

QRL boss slams 'f---ing crazy' fee of Kevin Walters' Maroons 'coach whisperer'

Queensland Rugby League chairman Bruce Hatcher has lashed out at the high-priced "coach whisperer" employed by Maroons coach Kevin Walters, branding his $5,500 hourly fee "f---ing crazy".

Walters has raised eyebrows in the Origin I build-up by employing mind tactics from Bradley Charles Stubbs, who has worked with top coaches such as Trent Robinson (Roosters), Michael Maguire (while at the Rabbitohs), Michael Cheika (Wallabies), Eddie Jones (England Rugby) and Graham Arnold (while at Sydney FC).

Queensland players have been banned from referring to the NSW Blues by name as part of Walters' tactics. Yet Walters employed Stubbs without the knowledge of the QRL, Hatcher said.

“I can hand-on-heart say I knew nothing about this coach whisperer,” Hatcher told The Courier Mail.

“I am astounded a bloke thinks he’s so good he can charge $5,500 an hour. That’s f---ing crazy.

“Kevvie gets a budget and the QRL is very strong on complying with that budget. I would be amazed if Kevvie has spent that amount of money for an hour.

“Fancy charging $5,000 an hour for advice that may or may not work. I wouldn’t know surgeons who charge that and they save lives."

The Daily Telegraph contacted Stubbs while he was holidaying in Fiji and received the following text in reply.

“I am not sure why you are calling me as I do very little media. The Coach Whisperer. EXPECT TO WIN. DONE DONE DONE. Thank you, very grateful, Bradley Charles Stubbs.”

Stubbs gave an insight into his methods last year in a column for PlayersVoice, after helping Robinson win an NRL premiership with the Roosters.

"I don’t teach a coach about game strategy or show a player how to score a try. But I can give them a ‘one-percenter’ in terms of a mental edge. In an era where very little separates the elite from the pack, it will make all the difference," Stubbs wrote.

"It’s not leadership, It’s believer-ship.

"The coach who believes the strongest will win. Unless a coach genuinely wants to learn and improve and explore the science of the mind, I refuse to work with them."

  • That's ridiculous amount of money! He is earning 10 times the amount per hour than a top notch lawyer. I reckon QLD has the squad to beat NSW this year. In saying that though Latrell Mitchell and Tedesco can win the game on their own. Hopefully it will be a close series.

  • Get him at Parra for 2 hours. We need all the help we can get.

    • Parra won’t pay that sort of money for him.... they’ll spend $5k on his brother who works in daycare.

"We definitely need Lomax more than we need Grieg. Plus I back BA to develop gun forwards if we need to. We already have amazing forwards coming through our Matt, SG and Flegg team."
