We are not talking to Champion: Eels

PARRAMATTA chief executive Paul Osborne has denied that the club is in negotiations with South Sydney centre Beau Champion

Zerotackle.com.au is reporting “Beau Champion has signed a three year deal” with the Eels however Osborne says that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“There’s been no negotiation with Beau Champion,” Osborne toldsportsnewsfirst.com.au.

Champion's manager Sam Ayoub says the 23-year-old is baffled at the media reports surrounding the supposed deal with the Rabbitohs, echoing Osborne's statement that there had been no contact between the two parties.

Champion has been with the club since 2005 where he made his debut.

Speculation about his future has been rife since the announcement that Greg Inglis will join the club next season.

Champion, Inglis’ second cousin, was influential in attracting the superstar to the burrow.

With Monday’s retirement of winger Eric Grothe and the release of centre Timana Tahu, Parramatta is in desperate need of backline depth.

They have recruited Jordan Atkins and Chris Walker; both former Gold Coast Titans, however lost Jonathan Wright (Bulldogs) and Krisnan Inu (Warriors).

The Eels chief would not, however, rule out that they have been negotiating with 20-year-old centre/winger Taioalo "Junior" Vaivai.

Vaivai made his NRL debut last year and featured in the Toyota Cup grand final this year.

“A lot of names have been thrown around because of the Inglis stuff; we’ll just see what happens,” Osborne said.

“We're also talking to Chris Hicks."

A frustrated South Sydney boss Shane Richardson told sportsnewsfirst.com.au, “There’s been a lot of speculation, last week it was Roy Asotasi, this week it’s Beau Champion.”

“I won’t be commenting on a player unless it’s between me and them.”

  • everyone that says "eat shit" and "u fwits" about their claims.

anyone that believes danny weidler is a clown. i believe thats where he got his info from.

its amazing that all these guys that get these rumours and swear by them are no where to be seen for months. ie. sinbad and now K dog.

    what twits.

  • WOW! ossy just doesnt get it. Hes wasted all this time trying to buy players who are contracted with other clubs. And now has lost so many players wh owere on  the market. And he still hasnt learned hes now trying to sign junior vai vai who is currently contracted to the rabbits.

  • yeah mate but now EVERYONES contracted, so what choice does OSSIE have but to try his luck with contracted players? yes yes the big screw-up was in not chasing the likes of ferguson wade graham hodko jeremy smith etc. middle of the year when they WERE available. But for this u cant really blame OSSIE as we were gunning for Cronk, Cooper etc.....we have been very unlucky. Hicks Mcguire Murray Bruest and Maitua r valuable signings.....juries out on atkins webb walker.

  • Eddie Farah is the Physio at Souths. He is the source of the rumour. You'd have to believe it if it's come from their camp. Anyway let's just wait. I still think we are signing him despite Osbourne's announcement. If South's need to shed to retain Inglis, then Champion will come.

You guys are naive if you think that the CEO's don't regurlarly talk and negotiate amongst each other. Also do you think Souths are waiting to the last minute b4 trying to work out how to keep Inglis if Shcubert says numbers don't add up.

My source is reliable and once again we'll see.

  • K-Dog, I really hope you right mate. If you don't you dont, you shared what you heard. Thanks for sharing.

  • i doubt it will be champion as he was the 1 pushing for inglis to join playing alongside him, there second cousins also so i highly doubt it will be champion the rabits shed if they have to shed a player/s

  • and how does K-Dog know the physio at Souths? do u play for them? LMAO

  • I have stated before and will state it again. Beau Champion is the most imroved player in the NRL.I would take him anyday because he is a tough skilfull player who sure can find the tryline. I reckon he would be a perfect fit in the centres for the eels.

I also read on some blog about this story were some Souths fans were commenting and most of them reckon that Champion will go to the eels. Personally I hope he does. He is 23 years old with a massive future ahead of him.
