Wayne Bennett

1 year deal, 2nd year option in his favour.

Change over after this season. How do we make this happen? Theres no 2nd Brisbane team coming next couple of years so he's available for at least a year.

Bring his own assistants and anyone who can fill out the roster. We have the resources, we have a top 5 roster on paper and we need to be taugh how to win and have a coach who the players believe have what it takes. Hes been around for donkeys years and you could count the players on 1 hand who didnt want to play for him. I think hes the only choice if available. It'll stop any one who wants to bitch about BA being shafted too because literally no one could argue its not an upgrade. The board should go out and make it happen. Its the answer to our woes.

Id ask any of you here if this happened over the next 6 weeks who doesnt think it opens our window for 2022? Coz youre all starting to see now with BA that thing is slammed shut. Can also teach some of our leaders about composure and leadership rather than sitting in the box in a panic sinking back 45 litres of water. Make it happen!

  • Yes, but he wouldnt take a 1 year deal, and it would be pointless, guy like that needs at least 3 years.

But yes id be offering Wayne a big deal.

    • Yup 3 years . If we haven't spoken to him at least considering he's without a club then I'm afraid it isn't BA that's the problem it's the people running the show .

      • Im saying 1 more from his perspective than ours because I think he wants to go back to Brisbane. He wants 3 id give it to him.

We havent had a grand final winning head coach at our club since Michael Hagan.. before that probably since John Monie. I think many in our organistation need to be taught the ins and outs of winning for 12 months at a minimum.  From there he can hand over to an assistant who has been with him for however long he was here. Aka the Souths blueprint.

        • Sorry to even say his name but R Stuart, won one. But i'm happy to forget him.

      • very fair point

  • I'm very keen on Wayne for 2022.
However he doesn't come without his faults so Caveat Emptor.
He's leaving the Bunnies after 3 seasons, prelims, Top 4......no GF. And now the Wayne party is over and he's no longer fighting to retain players, a good portion of them seem to be moving on too. The Bunnies window is about to slam shut. They can't win it this year either, their defence just doesn't cut it and both the Premiership favourites have put 50 on them each. So any deal with Wayne would need to have strong clauses about his role and responsibilities so he doesn't leave our club in tatters on the way out .

My No. 1 preferred option is Trent Robinson. Off contract at the end of 2022, Robbo is a proven high level performer. Highly intelligent, great communicator and absolutely knows what's needed to win a comp. His teams are always ruthless and hard to beat regardless of who is selected. A former Eels player and Brian Smith student, Robbo just fits the Eels Head Coaching role.

Coaching Parra to a Premiership is a massive lure to any Coach, particularly the big dogs Bennett and Robinson. Whoever can pull it off would become a modern day Jack Gibson.

Is Wayne for 12 months possible followed by Robbo on a long deal?

If Wayne can't agree to terms, do we keep BA for 1 year and insist upon new Assistants with a view to signing Robbo for 2023?

Do we just sign Wayne for 3 years and hope he can get the job done in that time frame?

    • I get what you're saying but this joint needs to be taught winning habits and a complete overhaul with how it plays.

We can thank Brad for the attitude adjustment in the place and how we do own the effort areas but it's got to the stage where a lot of the effort is being wasted now and its being called out by influential people. Sterlo has said we play harder than any other team but we waste effort.. Freddy said tonight if we want to play this style it takes too big a toll on our players and we wont make it through a finals campaign, Gus has said we lack the toughness to win etc... and all of these people are right. We need someone to come in that can address these areas. Whether that results in a premiership in their tenure or not... we have a relatively young squad so thats the next part of their progression. From there we can see where we need to go but im convinced we should be asking Wayne what it takes to get him here for 2022. I don't think the club would want to pay BA out but if we tell him hes not wanted beyond next year he will get a gig at an underperforming club. He has the resume to take an inconsistent team to a level of consistency and attitude.

    • I'm with you Muttman, TR would be my preferred option & secure him long term. I'd be delighted if we secured Wayne but I think there is more upside to TR.

    • Wayne every single day of the week over Robinson .Robinsons been able to sign talent , whoever and whenever he's wanted during his stint . He's not going to be afforded that luxury at our club .

Bennett's still a far more proven and respected coach. Fuck look how terrible Robinsons team was last night FFS .  And yet Bennett's team will very likely blow us off the park in a week .

South's could very well win it this year . They have more of a chance than Robbo's Roosters that's for sure .

    • money talks!

maybe his position has changed now since its looking like the new Qld team will be delayed at least a year.

Of the inexperienced coaches Ciraldo is one id want to look at if I was in charge. He's had a big role to play in the development of Penriths kids and from all reports has a good footy brain. Hes unproven but we could see what he has to offer. Bennett would be my first target.
