Watch Hayne decide he wants to step up to six

I'm tipping Jarryd Hayne will soon actually ask to make the move to five-eighth.

He's had three years being the side's main creator. And now he's clearly been asked to play a traditional fullback role and he just doesn't know how. Fullback is about doing the little things right, chipping in with all those one per centers, it's about providing energy and as good as Hayne is, he just doesn't bring those characteristics to the side.

Tonight he just looked frustrated, which I'm suggesting will increasingly be the case as he realises he's going to have to play a far less involved role in the team. I simply can't imagine Hayne being happy running around the side in a supporting role. As I've said a number of times in the last week, if Hayne plays fullback in a Rick Stuart team he will never provide the value to this side that is becoming of both his ability and salary.

Yeh, yeh. I know at least half of you are saying, shut up Phil, we've heard it all before but I don't understand how people don't salivate at the thought of a Hayne/Sandow halves combination. It is potentially the best in the comp and we're got other options at fullback both this year in Mullaney and next year in Hopoate. I honestly don't see the point in delaying the inevitable.

  • make sents to me and i think your right 1eyedeel

    • Makes sense you don't
  • Leave him at FB,pick up Dugan and play him at 5/8.
    • Dugan was a failure at 5/8 last year. He has gone off the rails since then with many problems. Why buy trouble?

  • Too many cooks in the halves with Hayne and Sandow. Would prefer Kelly and Hayne

    • They're totally different players. With Sandow you have a nippy player working at first receiver around the ruck, with Hayne you'd look to get him playing mostly second receiver (receiving the ball from Paulo or another forward) with a lot of runners coming off his shoulder and Hayne potentially putting them through gaps. Indeed, if Sandow can be trusted to run a game, they're perfectly complementary.

  • Going by tonight, hayne is way to slow and lazy to play anywhere geez he'd want to toughen up a bit if he want to be right in the thick of it.
  • Roberts is not a 5/8...he is a 14.......Kelly/Sandow is a much better combination which I hope returns soon...we missed Reni too........

    that 2nd half aged me......

    I have nothing

  • roberts is the reason we lost but i'm not dissapointed witht the boys. we set the pace and i'm stoked with the performance. sandow was exceptional even though we never had control of the game. dont los e faith. parra are building and i'm happy.
