He seems to have cut back on the ferocity since round 2. Did BA or whoever tell him to cut back so he can last the season instead of possibly ending up on the scrap yard by mid season?

Well there has only been one Martin Lang but Matagi was starting to remind me of the psycho after two rounds.
Thankfully he is starting to tone down the ferocity of his hit ups.
Not great theatre but at least he's still alive to tell the tales.
I doubt a coach would tell a player cut back on ferocity. Matagi hasnt really been a regular 1st grader at previous clubs so I think he is just getting used to the week in week out pressure of playing 1st grade.
Comparing rounds 1 & 2 with 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 reveals a huge drop in intensity. He's been around the game for many years now as well as spending 3 years in jail and he ain't a puppy. You'd think he's used to week in week out pressure. And sure facing the Taupau nut case would increase testosterone and it would make sense if he's carrying an injury. We all agree the drop in intensity happened but I'm stuffed as to why.

Peni runs harder than any of our forwards including Ma'u. He also didn't drop the ball last year? What happened to Matagi? His runs don't have the ferocity of early rounds?
It it ain't there it ain't there but it was there, the ferocity, so where did this ferocity come from? And why can't he recall it every week? Is it a memory loss? Or did grandfather clock finally ticked into the frontier of "it's old age now for you Suaia. You have been slowed down. Sorry about that".
"We might well take a step back In 2027. I expect in any given year that up to half of all clubs will perform worse than the year before and up to half will perform better. Every club has a long term average for performance that correlates to their…"

He's getting limited minutes, he may be carrying an injury as well. Who knows.

Martin Lang the psycho is a good reference Frank.
True - he will be up for a big one against his old club this weekend

So those first two rounds was the Volkswagen without a fresh coat of paint I witnessed? Was it the fuel additive? Or was it all just a bluff?
