Was Shackleton The Right Choice?

I'm just saying how I regret we signed Shackleton. I know it CAN'T be changed.I've been watching a few games he's played and he's not too bad but I have to say I sort of regret buying Shackleton. He has some impact and I know he is young etc and has plenty of talent to offer but wouldn't you have preferred to keep Joe Galuvao as well as Kevin Kingston with that money as well as have the rest to keep Moimoi, Mateo and Inu for 2011.Or even better, if we recruited Dave Taylor when he looked like he was playing bad and was going to be cheap to sign. He signed with South Sydney and I think he would have been happier with us if he had known how good we were at the end of 2009. Imagine our 2010 line up with Taylor. His freakiness towards the end of 2009 was just amazing.I was a massive fan of getting Poore and Taylor back on the old site and said that if we couldn't get Poore or Taylor, we should buy Shackleton. But now I seriously reckon Taylor would have been the best choice, even if we had to offer him more money and we shouldn't have considered Shackleton until Taylor was no longer an option.

How about we give him a run first and then make that decision.

It's not that I don't like Shackleton. I rate him. It's just that losing Kingston and Galuvao and potentially one of the following: Moimoi, Mateo and Inu in 2011 for Shackleton, doesn't seem like the best decision. I know you can't really make a decision on this issue and neither can you know how good he WILL be, but I just have a feeling in me that it wasn't the best choice and I want to hear other people's opinions on this.

  Galuvao is in his 30s, the filthy red head in his early 20's and can play up front or in back row. Its pretty hard to judge him playing in the team that came last . it will be interesting to see if he maintains his weight or loses some over the off season. i would like to see him play up front.

Wanna hear Phil's opinion. I don't disagree at about Shackleton being a good player. He's young and has talent and that's advantageous. However I'm concerned whether the VALUE he will provide is worth it, considering we may have to lost either Moimoi, Mateo or Inu in 2011 and if we kept Galuvao instead for 2010 only, kept Kingston and used the remaining money for deals with Moimoi, Mateo and Inu in 2011.

Taylor is definitely better value than what Shackleton provides based on what we saw this year.

No regrets for me. The Love Shack will become another cult figure at Parra. From what I saw in City/Country last year, and with DA's guidance, he will be exactly what we need: metres and mongrel
