  • Watching the broncos game, the linebreaks were caused by Fergo uneccesary jaming in on his oposition. A key part of edge defence is communication, and the outside defenders following each other. As such if D Brown and Blake are sliding, Fergo should be sliding as well. However, during the broncos game he was not. In future, espcially next year, I see Blake as a winger and we don't need Fergo. Fergo may score very hard tries, but his errors rate outweighs his postives. Whereas, Blake has the speed, size and aerial ability to be a winger. He doesn't have the passing game for a centre. Also wingers needs to make less tackles which is good because he arm grabs a bit.

    • A good read EA. Fergo certainly has had his time in the sun. He is too old and slow now. Against dragons, he was just jogging to get to a kick. We badly need speed speed in the backline

      • Fergo slow? Are you drunk? If he was jogging it was an effort problem, not an ability one. He is by no means slow.

        • Don't need to be so aggressive. But yes, I wouldn't say he is slow. In saying that, his best days are behind hin.

    • I agree that Blake's future probably lies on the wing. He will make a similar transition to wing that Fergo made earlier in his career. I would rather keep Fergo than Blake though, he just strikes me as more of a winner and a lot of the tough dirty stuff Fergo does in the middle with yardage goes unnoticed by most fair weather fans who think it's always the wingers fault when a try is scored. Matterson has a tendency to jam in which creates space on his outside (happened a lot in 2020). It's no surprise that Ferguson has looked safer on the wing playing alongside Niukore, Brown and Lane than he did last year outside Blake, Matterson and Moses.

To me I just don't think Blake and Fergo are on the same page as each other. There seems to be a personality clash, they don't seem to like each other too much. They were left together too long last year (criminally too long and it cost us dearly in the finals) when it was clear much earlier to myself and many other fans that they were our biggest weakness. There were contributing factors such as Matterson jamming inwards, Moses being defensively weak at times, Blake and Fergo not working in tandem.

      • Oh, and for what it is worth, I spoke to Waqa Blake at the Dragons game. He was walking around freely but when I asked him about his injury return he said he was still "a few weeks away" and it didn't sound like it would be soon. Make of that what you will.

        • Ferguson plays like a forward. Takes the hard hit ups and can't pass.

Unfortunately for him and us, he's a winger and seems to have arthritis.

        • Of course he's going to say 'a few weeks away'. Why would he share with you inside information about his injury? You're not that special LOL.

      • I like the change of Brown and Moses swapping sides, espicially in defence. I feel like Blake's misreads in defence where he went for decoys instead of the players out the back was due to his lack of trust in Moses making 1 on 1 tackles. However, with D Brown now on his side, hopefully he can trust the best defensive half in the comp to make his tackles so Blake can worry about his own 1 on 1 tackles and defensive reads.

        • He did exactly the same thing in round one though, despitehaving a full off season to work on it. He can't read defense. The bloke is, sadly, a complete defensive liability.
