UNANSWERED QUESTIONS RE EELS SALARY CAP SCANDAL

I don't wish to open all wounds but for a long time I have wanted rio post this blog hopefully to clear some issues, but I don't like my chances.

1. When the sacked directors committed their sins, did any of them benefit financially or was it only the Eels football club that was going to benefit.

I choose to think of the latter.

2. During this scandal, all of the other clubs remained strangely silent.

I believe that some if not all were thinking, ( I hope they don't look at us. Or I hope we don't have any rats in our ranks)

3. The investigation into the player managers has also gone strangely silent . If they were guilty of anything, were the Eels  the only club that they were doing these unlawful transactions? I tend to think that there were other clubs also guilty but some of these were  too close to NRL. Could you imagine if the NRL had to strip points of other clubs, it would stuff the comp.

4. What was allegedly said between Greenberg and Seward in a as much as it has been purported to have said, "This is what we did at the Bulldogs"

5.  I would like to see the sacked directors give their version of events on a show like 4 corners.

I suspect the various journalists who use aliases on this website will point out that Parramatta were extremely guilty of a lot of things and nothing has been proven against any other club

  • The investigation into the managers died because they cut a deal with the nrl & got Hayne to the titans that’s when that all went away
    • So glad it didn’t work out for them & it backfired big time
  • I don't think these questions will ever be answered. The only people who know what really goes on (ie with proof) are the player managers, and they are not going to say a word. I don't think any of the directors have anything on other clubs, and anything they say now will just prolong this issue for the club and nobody wants that.

Having said that however, the NRL have a lot to answer for. They said they will get to the bottom of this but have done absolutely nothing. This alone has done irreparable damage to the NRL brand.

  • This rubbish about Seeweed not standing to gain financially if we got away with it is rubbish . If we were successful he would’ve been heralded as a great administrator and would’ve been rewarded by way of either bonus’s or a better deal at next pay negotiation or both .  FFS I was just listening to Hadley bleeping on about poor honarable Seward and how he took it on the chin and stood to gain nothing by just executing his bosses orders blah blah blah .  If we won the comp that year clubs would’ve been lining up to throw money at Sewerage for his sterling job .

Of course he stood to gain financially from cheating . Who doesn’t have monetary performance rewards in their contracts at that level ?

  • My only gripe was when the old board wanted to appeal they were not given seward and ricky Stuart's testimonies to rebuff. Obviously we were guilty but it looked like due process wasn't followed.
Getting caught may turn out to be the making of this club and we look back at it as a watershed moment.

"LB, Eli, good discussion gents. We've acted in good-faith. By the book. With clean hands. Lomax appears not to have. But regardless of that, equity is not unlikely to view a 3-year restraint until 31 Oct 28' as overly-punitive and read it down.
We'd…"
