Twilight Of The Gods

For some unaccountable reason the Football Gods have smiled their smile upon the Eels. Manly`s defeat out of the jaws of victory against West Tigers has, by my reckoning, given a smidgen of hope to the Eels of making the top four. If they can fashion a win or two in these last three games and, perhaps, other results go our way we could be there. Do we deserve it? Hardly, after being flogged by the team coming last in the competition. Can we do it? The Gods have smiled! I am not going to hold my breath though. If we make the four can we do anything progressive? ha,ha, ha.

  • Or are the football gods setting us up for another almighty and heartbreaking crash and burn. If we lose this week and all 3 teams on 28 win and the dragons win we will drop to 8 and have the dragons right on our tail with 2 games to go...
I think I have just done a Robert on Robert.... :-)

We really need to win this week just to secure our place in the 8.
    • Isn't it funny, Hayne is going to leave the Titans before he plays against the Eels. He is sticking to his word of never playing against the Eels.

    •  XMan : That is the daily bread of Gods is it not? Their reason for being. I predicted after Round Three that the Eels might scrap into the eight. Now you are saying we might not make the eight! Football Gods indeed. You escape me with your Robert on Robert. I am slow on the uptake these days.

  • What people need to keep in their minds when examining individual games is that the salary cap has largely done its job and there is an even distribution of talent (although some would argue a couple of teams seem to hang onto rep players a bit easier) and any game is 'losable'. Every win is hard fought and reflecting a weeks good preperation and a good gameplan being executed. You can only look at a teams position at the end of the season to comment on how the year has gone. Newcastle is going as well as anyone bar melbourne over the last few weeks. We lost, get over it. If we win our remaining games and get into the top 4 we deserve it. Don't forget we are missing about half of our starting team round 1.
