Turvey : Decision time for Daniel

Canterbury legend Steve Mortimer believes his off contract nephew Daniel may resist the lure of $1 million offer over three years and remain at the Eels.

"Whilst the Bulldogs would be happy if Daniel chose to return home, at the same time it would be an absolute knife in the heart for every Parramatta fan. I don't think it's going to come down to money. As long as the offer is in the ball park, I think Daniel will stick with the club that's looked after him very well.'

"As much as it would be nice to see Daniel back in the blue and white, Paul Osborne and the new Parramatta administration have been absolutely fantastic, As has coach Daniel Anderson, who is an absolute gentleman and an astute coach."

"Whatever Daniel decides he's got my 100% support."

  • Look, don't get me wrong, I think Steve Mortimer's a bright guy, but how is Canterbury "home" for Mortimer? And "see him back in the blue and white"? He's NEVER played in the blue and white. So my dad works in the same bank all his life I have to too? What a rubbish argument. I actually got home from the pub last night and I have no idea why but started dicking about on the Canterbury fan site - I think it's called "The Kennel" or something. Nasty bunch as they were, the Dogs fans certainly don't want KK, they're a bit indifferent either way of Mortimer, but they definitely all agreed they wanted Mateo.
  • 1 million over 3 years thats alot. let him go if hes asking that much from the eels.
  • Can you send the link for where you found this from?
  • $1 million over three if the bulldogs want him that bad, I would say let him go, to much to pay a second year player... remember all the hype about that Big winger (can't remember his name) went to manly when they threw big money at him and look how he turned out..
  • I agree, that's simply too much money. I don't even think Hayne signed for that much when he signed his last contract.
  • Surely the dog's havn't offered him that much money, that is absolutely ludicrous imo. I assume it's just media beat up, however if the Dogs are offering DM somewhere near 300 a season, it worries me how much we are offering him.

If we wern't somewhere in that vicinity ie 250k it would be a given that he would sign for the Dogs, or if we are in fact offering him that kind of money then we are making a very risky decision. Spending that much coin on a kid who is still yet to truly prove himself at the top grade is a massive gamble, if I were in charge Morts would be offered 150 take it or leave it son.
  • I like the kid but not at that price. No sale. For that much coin we would go close to getting Mateo and KK re-signed.
  • 230, 000 a year is how much I think Mortimer is worth. Anyone agree?
  • Surely Mateo is the priority.

Personally I would hate to see someone who loves the club and supported it as a youth leave.

I think it is worth recalling that he was a gun in 2007 and virtually carried the team solo in 208. I cannot see Daniel doing this now or even in a couple of years. Just re sign the guy asap.
  • It was in todays Sunday Telegraph but not on the web site for some reason

They should have got him last year when I mentioned it, perfect Nuikore replacement.
Would have got him for a steal , now his price goes up weekly.
