Training Blog 8th April

Sunny but windy conditions for training today. Quite a few things to report today. There were a few non- starters in the contact work.* Darcy Lussick had a couple of corks and was excused from training. Still turned up to watch the boys. Good team spirit there.* Nathan Peats was doing his own training with one of the coaching staff. Not sure about why.* Taka was with Semi and the rehab group going through their exercisesHere's the run down on the session:After the ball work the NRL and Wenty squads faced off in some opposed work. A notable inclusion for Wenty was Pauli who looked good.A notable inclusion for the NRL squad was Richie Fa'aoso. I wouldn't read too much into that as later he joined the Wenty squad for their extra work. However it does indicate how close he is.I found it interesting that ZDC was playing dummy half for Wenty and judging by the extra coaching that he was getting, I think he might play there. There was a couple of interesting set plays that the team were working on. I think they might prove difficult for the opposition to defend against. My standouts from the session were Peni Terepo, Manu Ma'u, Chris Sandow and Corey Norman. Peni looked very strong and ran great lines, both running wide and on inside balls. Manu -seriously what can you say? It was good to see him back in his position. He does nothing by halves. Sandow and Norman were popping up on both sides of the ruck and looked really confident. Norman was throwing high quality passes and showed really quick hands on some plays.Interesting observations - Darcy Lussick's comment when the ball went to Robinson on an overlap "goodnight!"- Anthony Watmough doing extras with Peats after training on his catching. This is what professionals will do when they are disappointed with their own work.- Semi in the rehab group. He is clearly unable to stretch out but still looks fast! After the conclusion of the session, BA spent about 40 minutes with the Wenty team, running through plays and then sitting down and talking with them for about ten minutes. A strong Wenty is crucial to the success of the club. It appears that this is being looked into.

  • Thx sixties, you are the optimist we need to have on this site. Never a derogatory word about any player unlike me. ;)
Sixties does Takairangi look close to making a return anytime soon? We sorley missed his quality work against the Tigs.
    • He seemed to be moving ok. But he didn't do contact with the others which is a concern. Then again neither did Peats or Lussick and Lussick told me he would be fine.

  • Thanks Sixties, always enjoy reading your slant on how the teams are training.

  • good blog, and it was needed that brad has more input with wenty..adding docker clay to wenty better then him wasted with a out of forn holden cup side.

i think the holden cup need fresh players from our sgball side.. fact are there ruining docker clay form, great move to put him in the wenty side.with pauli pauli.

    • I'm certainly hoping that he'll take the field for Wenty. I think that it's crucial for his development.
  • Who were the centres/wingers?
  • Any word on Pauli returning soon? Would be nice to have some more forwards back in the squad.

"Agree LB, that's why in my team below I have Walker starting at Hooker, surely he can do a job for 20mins and then allow Ryley Smith to come on and play the last 60mins only requiring that one interchange for the Hooker rotation.
Walker can then…"

There were periods where he was gassed but to his credit he kept turning up and didn't let the team down.
