Training Blog 8/1/15

Great session to watch today. Went longer than last 2 and I also arrived earlier. Here's my observations:Fitness session to begin with highlighted some strong effort from Mannah - he looks really fit.Forward hit up drills - real emphasis on aggression in the hit up and execution in the passes. Sefa played very direct in this drill.Separation into backs doing one on one, two on one and two on two attacking drills. Forwards doing defensive drills. Lots of talk with the forwards. Again Robinson looked very elusive.Opposed sessions had some notable highlights.Watmough is a brilliant addition. What a leader! He's like an extra coach out there. Ripping into his team mates, giving instructions, leading defence lines.Hoppa. Wow!!!! Never stopped talking. He'll be fullback. Chimed in creating space and offloaded again for a great try.Great talk all over the park.Sandow looks very fit as does Wicks. The two teams were again mixed up for the session. I'd suggest some great competition for spots and some selection headaches.Got to meet a great bloke today, Ted Arthur. Our club is in great hands with the Arthur family! Parra through and through. Also met another of our one eyed brethren. Look forward to your photos of the session mate.

  • Choc needs to be captain imo.

Whos Ted? is that BAs old man or brother?

    • Dad
    • X2 on choco
    • Peats captain on field, Mannah off field.
Watmough is a firebrand, captaincy might take away from it.
    • Agree Kurupt. Watmough isn't captaincy material for me. You don't need a C next to your name to be a leader. Watmough will lead by example on the field and Peats and Mannah better fit the captaincy role.
  • Its great its a family affair for BA, he must be very proud being able to have his dad along, great stuff, thanks for another great blog 60s

    • Mate it is multi generational with the Arthur family. Ted was telling me about how he was taken to his first game as a baby in 1947. His parents and grandparents loved the Eels. He loved Cumberland. As I said, there is a real passion for the club.
  • After the session, when they were all huddled listening to BA, both Hoppa and Peats addressed the players. There is real leadership in the place.
To see the players doing extra work after training was also great. Peats working on dummy half passing from both sides. Back three working on taking bombs, Morgan working on catching on the run with hands in front, Sandow working on goal kicking today.
    • Great posts mate. Love'em. Is it still at the same place the boys train? I will see if I can go tomorrow. What time do you usually get there?
  • Great read 60's, many thanks. I notice no mention of Norman. Looks like Crappy Joe is very positively involved.

"Ryles and MON are 0/3 Coryn. I'd say the same with BA that it was him and MON with signings, though at the end of the day MON builds the roster that is his job. But also it is at the discretion of the coach in what they want."

"NOS would you consider my idea of getting Brian Smith in some role in back room to help with signings? One thing he was good at was recruiting.
Not all the time but he did some great signings."
