Training Blog 19/1/16

Another great session to watch today. Two referees were in attendance, including Matt Ceccin. A bit to report. Here are my observations:After beginning with some short ball movement drills the players moved into try line opposed drills. These drills served two purposes. Firstly they were working on creating scoring opportunities from 10 metres out. The players had to make decisions about the lines they ran, whether they went for the line themselves or whether they passed to a support. In a game situation this will help them to make decisions about which side of a defensive player that they will target. Importantly the same drill was also used to practise defensive decisions. Which player do they take?As these plays were being run, the referees were watching from end on and looking to see whether any of the plays could be an obstruction play. The next part of the training involved a simulated game with the referees controlling the play. This game was interspersed with fitness drills which the referees joined in with. Some highlights from the game included:* brilliant explosive lines run by Tepai, creating two tries* Semi's incredible speed to score a try* Taka setting up Robinson to score. Taka could be the buy of the year. If he and Robinson continue to play the same side,I think we might see how fast Robinson is this year. Might match Semis try tally!* Manu looking great with his ball work and the lines he ran* Sandow looking super fit and super fastI cannot overstate how powerful both Tepai and Manu looked today. Absolute standouts!Throughout the who session BA was on the field behind the line barking corrections to players or praising their play. His assistants do a similar job. It was also interesting to see a drone being used to film the session.I liked the use of the referees today. They were blowing any necessary penalties and it was good to see them joining in the fitness work.Again, the players engaged in extra work after training. Robinson and Sandow worked on goal kicking and the fullbacks and wingers worked on their catching.Great session today! Probably the best I've watched.

  • U d man sixtiesboy. I dont know, but I love u.
    • Now that's a worrying response!!!
  • Junior has looked good. His Monday session last week was his best. Manu and Tepai were awesome today. The standouts for mine, no question.
  • Sixty do you think they will be there tomorrow? and what time?

    • They were there on Tuesday two weeks ago but not last week. I don't have any official timetable. They seem to start around 9am.
    • Thanks Sixtiesboy, I'm hoping to head down tomorrow. Lets hope they are there!
  • Thanks again sixties! Apparently the refs are attending all the clubs during training to explain the new peeling off a tackle at the same time, new rules?
    • 60's - regarding Grunta's post about the new tackle rules (ie immediate release by all players) - did you notice the players doing this and whether the refs were helping with the interpretation of the new law?

Also, in relation to the above did you notice the dummy half running more to gain extra metres? I understand opponents to the new law suggest there will be more dummy half runs and less off loads.
  • Thanks 60s great work.
Which park is the training at?
Might piss work off tomorrow for a gander.
    • Richie Benaud. But they changed their venues last week so don't take it as gospel.
