Training Blog 16/1/15

Arrived at Richie Benaud oval today at 9.25 to find the first grade squad in their last 10 minutes of training. This looked like a group of maybe 20 players. Pauli Pauli was one of that select group. As they finished up the designated Wenty players were arriving. Here's my observations. The squads were going through their sets of 6, working on completing their sets and getting to either a kick or a run on the last. I'm starting to work out the names for their plays and what they do but I won't blog that. They roll a certain number of rucks before a named play. Both squads seem to train identically, which makes sense. BA trained both squads.Of note today, in the first grade session, IDG and Peats continued to interchange. IDG was working on his shoulder turn when delivering his pass. Fa'aoso trained and looked strong. In the Wenty session, ZDC, Kelly and Matterson were alternating in the halves. Hunt trained at fullback. Crooks trained at centre. Folau looks bigger every time he trains. The talk remains a factor and the players remind each other to talk.Sorry that I can't report more from the first grade session. As I said, I don't have a schedule and they have trained at different times and places this week compared to last week.

  • Still a good effort mate. Looks like the firsts start at 8. I wonder if BA is in a quandary where to use DeG or if he is proceeding with using both in the starting 17. Peats starting as dummy half with DeG on the bench etc.

Hunt still the backup FB is a surprise though. I thought he was goneski.

    • No. He was training last week too.
  • Love your work Sixties, as always.

  • Thank's sixtiesboy why don't you have a talk with Larissa maybe she can speak to BA on behalf of the supporters and get you some sort of schedule doesn't hurt to ask

    • One more week and then back to work. Might consider arrangements next year when they move to the new centre. Not sure whether they will be training behind closed doors when the venue is finished.
  • Doubt that he would take up a first grade training spot if he wasn't up to playing.
  • I'll pass my mobile details on to BA. I'm sure he'll be in touch with any variations to the schedule.
  • I think the wing spots and centre spots are looking clearer. Folau, Faraimo, Lavaka, crooks, Goodall, all trained with Wenty. I think Toutai did too but couldn't be sure.
    • How good is Wenty's backline going to be. We've probably got three outside backs who are potential first graders who won't even make the Wenty side.

  • It was an impressive group to watch at training. An extra observation was there was a lot of love from the coaching staff towards Kelly. Lots of praise for his options and his kicks. Lots of "great work Kell, top kick Kell!" Seriously, some of these younger boys are huge. Lots of advice/coaching during play for Newbigging.
