FORMER Eels star Fuifui Moimoi has been devastated by news that a young family member has been found dead at his home in Utah.
Moimoi’s new club Leigh Centurions is rallying to support the Tongan international who may soon have to fly to the United States to support his family.
Centurions head of rugby, Derek Beaumont said the club would be totally supportive of Fuifui and his family at this difficult time.
‘‘I have told him if he needs to go to America then go right away,” Beaumont said.
‘‘Fuifui is currently gathering his thoughts at this end and collating as much information as he possibly can.” Beaumont added.
Moimoi’s wife and son are already on their way to the United States to comfort the family while he works out his next move.
Beaumont didn’t go into the specifics of the tragedy but did confirm Moimoi’s nephew had passed away from apparent gun shot wounds.
‘‘All we know at this stage is that his young nephew has apparently been shot and was found dead in his car,” Beaumont said.
‘‘If Fuifui decides to go to America, he has our total backing at this time.
‘‘We are a family club and are always highly supportive of all our players’ needs under such difficult circumstances.
”We are here to help and support him all we can.”
Moimoi, the Tongan World Cup international, joined Leigh at the start of the season after parting ways with the Parramatta Eels after the 2014 NRL season.
