Tough times dont last

I am as disappointed as the next guy about our position, 1-4. We all know that with a bit of luck and the footy gods favouring us, we could easily be 4-5.  Not to be.

From the safety of my armchair, I can see the ongoing problems as clear as day. But fixing them isn't easy on the run, and under pressure that is mounting by the day.

Waqa and Sivo are our weakness.Sivo getting run out on 3 occasions is criminal. Blake putting passes to him with sliding defenders and a metre to work with Is criminal. Their lack of footy brains is hurting us big time.

Cartwright imo has been a revelation. His defence and new found toughness is just what his career and our team needed. His defence has improved so much so that his chopping edge runners down regularly with a great a great legs technique that relies on timing , contact and perfect technique. Haven't seen his silky ball skills yet but his game has gone to another level.

Hopgood is a machine.  He will need to managed from himself as he will over cook being everything to everyone .  BA needs to change it up, freshen him up and remember that this kid as good as he is remains 10 games deep into his NRL career.

Hodgson. Father Time has caught up to him. That reaction time he has lost is affecting his passing game ( so close to forward passes in most sets  ). His game awareness is slightly off ( running a short blind 40 out on last tacke with no field position or possession ). And just the disconnect with his spine is evident.  The footy brain can see what needs to be done, but he just doesn't have the  engine to get the job done.

We are now must win territory for next month at least.

To achieve that goal we need to take the lessons of month 1 and go up a few notches.

We missing that POD who can change momentum in a game. If someome finds him let me know.

Now, I've got the whole weekend to get depressed and dwell on the woes of this team.

  • Good post Squiz; look I agree with your comments and we need to be composed - it's simple stuff for me.
Complete; defend well; execute and be patient. I think our effort has been v good and attitude has been mostly.
I feel BA would have dropped Blake had we had a fit squad.
I also feel he needs to take off JH around 25 min mark as he as had almost two yrs off footy and needs to build back in.
The next month is ours to win or not, and feel as long as we win at least 3 we will be ok.
Greig and Hands have been good imo and the bench over the last two wks has been better.

    • BA doesn't drop players for poor performances.

      • Totally 👍

  • Watch this space, Hodgeson will get a contract extension and Hands will go to the England.

    • 😂😂

      🤔🤔

      😢😭

  • BA continues to use Blake regardless how poorly he plays. Blake's continual mistakes are on BA.

  • 100% agree with all comments. Well stated PT

  • Define tough time .

if tough time looks like not winning GF, it will last for long time. I can't see anything is going to change in our club.
if tough time look like being in top 8, sure it won't last.

  • Cartwright has been really good tbh.

He is showing what many of us knew he had in him with application and an extended opportunity from BA.
For mine that spot is his to lose from here.

Waqa Blake, gees he was poor again. Could not believe he was passing to Sivo 5 metres before the line giving him a metre to move - it's under 7 shit and he's still doing it weekly...

How he remains in this side ill never - IMO, the worst is yet to come with him if he isn't dropped.

    • 'He is showing what many of us knew he had in him with application and an extended opportunity from BA' - Bingo, Frank.

It was in him last year also, he just doesnt seem to be a player that can operate under 10mins of game time & fear of being dropped week to week - brings out the poor decisions.

Not sure why Ofahengaue is ahead of Greig as he has been pretty disappointing. "

"Exactly, he has worked that well the last 3 weeks. If Carty is out i can see BA naming either Greig or Ogden on the bench to continue the rotation."
