Do we really want to finish top 4 ???
if you had half a brain you most definitely would not want to play melb in melb by finishing 4th and olaying first....
whats the point, we cant win that game. The refs just wont allow it...
so lets look at the other options
finish 5th or 6th and we get a home ground game at Bankwest, and we play some team that just makes up the numbers in the 8. This win would gather momentum for us to go into the next round. A semi final home game at Bankwest in its forst year would be a dream come true.
Thankgod for the great form shown by manly for we don’t want top4....
thanks, but NO thanks....

Some sense to what you are saying especially post 2017.
That close loss to Melbourne scarred us and then out in straight sets.
Especially since we got rheamed by the refs. That will happen again in a final down there. If we do get 4th we should play a reserve team in Melbourne, rest all our top players with sore toe injuries and then go for it.
I agree we want a home semi and a chance to build some momentum. Besides that it would be a graft experience for our younger players to experience a home semi and hopefully a win. The storm have lost 3 games by a combined 4 points. We just don’t have the ruck defence to compete with them for 80 mins. We aren’t winning the comp this year we need to move on a couple of our poorer ruck defenders and replace them before we are a genuine title shot.
If we finish 4th and play Melbourne who say we don't beat them this time. We went close 2017 despite being given no chance. We are a better side then the previous year and have much more strike power. Even if we lose to Melbourne we then play at Bankwest anyway the following week. Top 4 guarantees you home game week 2 if you lose week 1.
Come 5th or 6th and play in form team like penrith broncos or sharks who have been on a roll in an elimination game although would be at Bankwest. We win that then we play loser of top 4 final at their home ground. Could be raiders in Canberra, Manly at Brookvale or roosters/Souths at their home.
I would take the double chance with possible week off with guaranteed qualifying semi to get into the grand final if we win or home game at Bankwest week 2 if we lose
No we dont
those rules have changed
we play at ANZ 2nd round
Pauly that was before Bankwest was built and games were played at ANZ in week 1 of the finals as well.
The rules were any Sydney team would play at the big stadiums for finals because the eels complained they couldn't get tickets to finals game vs saints at Kogarah years ago. Exemptions were given if playing an out of town team and the crowd was unlikely to be affected by being played in a smaller stadium. If 2 Sydney teams play it doesn't matter if week 1 or 2, the NRL could move the game to bigger stadium so your argument for coming 5th is still pretty week.
Now Bankwest is built not sure how it affects it but assume NRL could still make us play at Homebush if we are against penrith in week 1 as they could likely sell over 35,000 tickets.
There is zero chance to NRL will make us play a prelim final anywhere but BankWest. The place will be cooking for a GF qualifier.
Historically, you cannot win the comp if you finish outside the top 4. For the club to progress to the promised land, that has to be the goal. It would also have the benefit of ensuring we don't get bundled out in the first week by a team like Penrith who sit dangerously below us.
History is there to be broken and records reset. If that is the mindset we take, then we deserve to lose.
That is true, but telling ourselves we'd rather finish 5th than 4th to avod Melbourne is also a terrible mindset.
