I hope it`s not true either. Why waste our money on a 33 year old money chaser who would most likely play just a few games after getting injured ? He`ll probably be 34 soon ?
I would rather keep the money for a younger rising star during the mid season transfer window.
We could bring David Klemmer back home where he belongs, or some other young rising stars with the money being offered to Puletua.
This talk about Parra been linked to a 33 year old just infuriates me. You can just see what`s gonna happen, just think back to Carl Webb, Paul Phatuira, Chris Hicks, Chris Walker etc.
This board has learned nothing. So what happened with chasing Matt Scott , Ryan James, Tim Grant etc ? That`s who we should be trying to sign. And guys like Josh Papalli, Jason Bakuya, KANE EVANS.
If we sign Puletua then I hope all the people who voted for Parra 4 Ever (3P) are happy.
I see Puletua as no different to bringing Justin Poore back. I bet the board are thinking if Willie Mason is still playing okay at his age, then maybe Tony can too. But for what ? Peanuts ? Tony went to England for nothing else other than money and he aint coming back to the NRL if we aren`t atleast matching what other super league clubs would offer him.
I don`t care if he`s been playing great recently. We all know what Tony is thinking. We know he just wants one last cheque and get himself injured so he can sit in the grand stand to watch our games. And every time the cameras zoom in on him during Parra games you can be rest assured that deep down he will be whole heartedly laughing in all our faces and saying "thanks for the money Parra, thanks for being so stupid Parra, sucked in Parra fans I don`t give a crap about you or the Parra club, stuff you`s all".
And besides, when was the last time he played for the Kiwis ? I certainly don`t remember him being in their squad in the last couple of years. "Kiwi Test Ace" - pffffftt
Sorry, but it`s a firm no from me. We already got enough on our plate worrying about W.TONGA and Ben Smith getting injured for most of the season. I know injuries are an inevitable part of our game, but why waste our money on someone who is at an age where he is more vulnerable to injuries ?
No thanks. Especially to a 2 x 16-20 minute wonder. We already have one of those. His name is Fuifui.
For what it's worth, that isn't even from Zero Tackle. The actual article itself, the original one, is from the Sun Newspaper in England.
On a totally different note, if this is for additional depth to our forward pack, I don't see why not.
Puletua may yet have something to offer a side.
With any other club he will perform strongly and probably for the entire season. But at Parra we all know what would friggin happen.
I don`t want money spent on Puletua for one season to cost us an Origin prop like Tim Grant or Matt Scott or a rising star or two such as K.Evans because they would be after longer term contracts.
But then again, we are supposed to be seriously cashed up at the end of 2013, so I hope they know what they`re doing.
Maybe the Parramatta club believe Puletua can offer a wealth of experience and knowledge to our rising stars such as Masinamua, Tanginoa, and Pauli Pauli etc. ? Kind of like how Petero Civinoceva was brought in to mentor the Panther`s next generation of NRL stars.
Now I`m talking myself into it hehhe. Could well turn out to be a smart signing !!! Even if he does get injured, he can still teach our next generation and some of our current first graders a hell of alot.
But you know what`s gonna happen now don`t ya`s ? Another NRL club will poach him from under our noses ofcourse.
another Carl Webb etc
Hi there, my first reaction on reading this blog was very similiar to your reply however whilst I fully agree with your reference to Carl Webb etc, I also remember a couple of our premiership teams where we recruited the Bear, big Artie & Stumpy Stevens for our 81 title & then Terry Leabeater in 86. They were all at the end of their respective careers yet helped us win our titles. I also remember when we signed Matt Goodwin for a couple of seasons at the end of his career, he was terrific & still had real impact on the field. I guess it all depends on the individual player involved.
If RS wanted more experience & grunt up front for one season at a bargain rate then pehaps a 1 year contract with appropriate incentives could be a worthwhile proposition for both parties.
I agree. Carl Webb was going nowhere when he was signed too. Tony Puletua is still playing well.
