Austaralian and Queensland international center Willie Tonga could be the Parramatta Eels newest recruit.
Speculation about Willie Tonga current contract scenario with the North Queensland Cowboys intenseified when former Blues coach Phil Gould turned down a coaching role with the Cowboys this week.
In a interview with channel nine Tonga has said that he has allways loved the Parramatta club he said that Eels have a great culture there abouts, Tonga also said that he is for ever grateful for the Eels giving him his first shot in first grade. When asked about his curent Cowboys contract scenario, Tonga responded by saying i have a get out clause in my contract and thats for my manager to handle not me.
The Eels CEO Paul Osbourne has been in continous touch with the star Cowboys center of the past couple of weeks it is beleived that the Eels are prepared to offer Tonga up $ 375,000 a year for a three year deal believed to more than $ 75,000 more than his current Cowboys contract. It is also beleived that the Brisban Broncos were also in the race for Tonga but were only prepared to offer Tonga $ 315,000 a year on a three year deal it is unknown if the Broncos will raise there bid higher but it is understood if Tonga were to leave the Cowboys he would sign with the Eels.
It is beleived that Tonga is feed up with the coaching methods of current Cowboys coach Neil Henry, Henry has confirmed that if Tonga wanted out of the Cowboys he could easily get out by cashing in his Get out clause in his contract. Neil Henry is under pressure to perform in 2011 as the axe hangs over his head. The Cowboys 2011 title hopes were dealt a massive blow tonight with new recruit Brent Tate leaving the field with a suspected fractured leg as losing Tonga would be a massive blow.
We could have this one in the bag ( if Tonga wants to leave the Cowboys he can)
The Cowboys cant do anything about it
