1 million each per year. How many you want. That's the first sentence that should be said to both.
After tonight's effort and thus far in their careers they only way is up and for many years to come.
Make them our Marquee players. Build the team around them.
Replies
The Roosters will buy them.
Jake we should go very very hard for. 1mil for 5 years. But they’re manly through and through it’ll never happen.
Look I agree. It's going to be a bidding war.
1 million is around the right price to be competitive. Might have to go even a bit higher. But one or both would dramatically change our team.
Even open up a premiership window.
Just lets get cracking ( hopefully ) on at least a genuine offer / bid.
Weirder shit has happened. Me might Jag one or both.
Build a team around them our young guys, Mitch and Gutho. Paulo another Big aggressive prop and a centre...WAQU PLUS ANOTHER.
Tell him his dreaming.
$2m for both for 5 years
Jake on$ 700 k
Tom on$ 900 k
Both up next year
No from me.
Both are good players but we should stick to players we actually have a chance of scoring.
Exactly. Their off contract after next year. We would have to keep massive part of cap open for them, then when they resign with Manly we will be stuck with the left overs again.
Would be great signing but Parra won't be on their radar so should use the money before then on target we are more likely to secure.
"Is buying a premiership that important, rather than building one?"
Poppa, I'm not sure that comment has any relevence in current professional sport. When I look at our current squad I see only a handful of players that are true Parra juniors. The rest have either been bought in recently or have been in our system for a little while. The point here is that no team relies solely on players they have developed. Maybe next year we will have a few more of our juniors in the top grade, but the majority of the team will still be players that have been bought in from other teams or areas.
So back to your question, you query if buying a premiership is that important. I'd reply to that with something along the lines of that if quality players are available on the market, why should we as a club not be asking about their services. We have a $10million cap, of which most has to be spent each year, so we would be mad not to be asking.
A simple summary is...
I'd love to have had the joy the Roosters fans have had over the past few years.
Do they buy premierships or develope their own players?
I couldn't care less how we win a title, but it would be nice to see one in my lifetime.
I agree with the sentiment Grunta.
If we were going to build or develop our own team to win a premiership, you would need the same kind of luck we had in the late 70s and early 80s, i.e. a group of players all coming through together that are future superstars. But with the salary cap as it is now, it's next to impossible to keep all of those players anyway. If you go the other way and try ot buy a premiership, well that could be next to impossible too unless you have connections in high places. I think the answer lies somewhere in the middle...
