TOM HUMBLE INTO HOOKER ?

Tom humble seems to be the player the eels are excited about , My question is with such a strong backline will he get a run and if so where? My guess is reserve dummy half . What are your thoughts ?

  • I think he is going to make Mortimer earn his keep. Very talented and has a good eye for the the whole field and what need to happen.. half for sure.
  • I think that once he gets used to the rise in standard and pace of the NRL, he will make a brilliant 5/8, and Mortimer will go to halfback. Don't think the Eels would lose ANYTHING by Mortimer slotting into halfback.
  • I must admit I have never seen him play but I would have thought he would be a while off first grade. If good enough he might be gradually introduced off the bench towards the end of the season - maybe.
  • he needs to bulk up heaps hes like 70 kilos if that
  • I think he is ready for first grade, the problem is for the kid is he has come to the wrong team i.e. we are strong and have depth in all our positions. Unlike at other clubs where he could have walked straight into the team.

This is what I like about Humble, he knew that he would have to work if he wanted to make it at Parra, he has obviously seen where a club that is buliding for something and he wants to be a part of it.

The only thing i would say he lacks atm is size, but he is bigger than Morts and Morts used his small size to his advantage tremendously. I think Humble needs to put on about 8kgs or so, which is more than possible to occur in the off-season.

Obviously it will be hard for him to get a start in the 17 by the start of the season, but due to his utility value i'm sure it won't be long before he gets a chance. I think he is destined to star, child prodigy, Qld Under19's captain, Qld cup rookie of the year, Parramatta Premiership winner ;).
  • I totally agree with your comments on robson , Great point
  • We extended our loyalty by offering him a contract. Kris Keating has been within the Eels system since he was a nipper, has come through all our grades - starred at every level and quite frankly, it's his time.

Have we not learnt anything from the Jarryd Hayne/fullback affair. We shunted him around because we tried to do the right thing by Burty who did well without being brilliant. You put the best players, in their best positions. Simple as that and my undestanding was the club was always going into next year, with the understanding that Morts and KK would be our halves and whoever was signed in that final slot would be doing so, knowing that was the situation.
    • I have seen him play, he is very, very good. He is young, fast, great try scoring ability, kicks goals and has strong defence when needed. A Mortimer/Humble halves combination will be devastating. Look at the footage on You Tube and the like. If it wasnt for BOWEN and THURSTON at the Cowboys he would be in NRL now.

Be in NRL top 17 by Round 4. These days, age is not that big an issue. They are educated through the same system from all levels at the club. Cant wait to see this backline in action. NOT a hooker IMO.
    • Agree 100% 1 Eyed, well put mate.

If Kris Keating doesnt get a shot this year, then there would be no doubt that he would move on at the end of the season. Thus leaving the Eels without a long-term halfback solution, which he is. He and Morts are young and should be given the chance to grow up as professional footballers together, potentially have the ability to be one of the best halves combos in the competition.

"well done to Toni Mataele for being in the 17, has been pretty impressive in cup this year. Will Latu on the bench in cup is a disgrace, Guymer should be playing in the middle, he's definitely not a edge forward, Matterson should be in the side."
