Tim Mortimer to french league on 12 month deal

Tim says bonjour to French chanceBY NICK MCGRATH13 Oct, 2010 08:00 AMRUGBY LEAGUEORANGE league product Tim Mortimer has dusted off his beret and accepted a 12-month deal with French rugby league side Racing Club Albi XIII.Mortimer has played out the last few seasons for Parramatta Eels’ feeder side Wentworthville in the NSW Cup and was in the blue and golds’ top 30 this season, playing a pre-season trial in Perth. He’ll now play for RC Albi XIII in France’s Elite Two Championship - just one step down from the English Super League.Tim’s dad, Canterbury-Bankstown legend Peter Mortimer, said it was an offer too good to refuse.“He played with Adam Shore when he was at Manly and he’s (Adam) played two seasons up there (in France). Adam told them about Tim and they saw video of him and made him an offer,” Peter Mortimer said.“He was injured for Wenty and then the offer came along and he said he’d have a look at it.“He’s going over there for the experience.”Tim Mortimer tore the ligament off his hip near his groin late in the Wenty Magpies’ season. The wing three-quarter’s injury sidelined him for 10 weeks during Wenty’s tilt at their second NSW Cup title in three seasons.“He played most of the games but didn’t come back after the injury. He was ready to go but the side lost,” Peter Mortimer said.“The operation was a success, though. He has recovered really well and is running at full pace. He’s getting a bit of size back, too.”Tim Mortimer is currently studying to be a PE teacher at the Australian College of Physical Education. He’ll take 12 months off to play in France.AC Albi XIII represents the Albi, Tarn and Midi Pyrenees regions. And while the chance to play overseas was a major drawcard, the opportunity to play at a high level was also incentive enough to make the move.“It’s the chance to see a new country and he’ll be playing at a level just below the (ESL side) Catalans Dragons,” Peter Mortimer said. And what about the language barrier?“He can’t speak much (French) at all at the moment but Adam went over there and picked it up in 12 months,” Peter Mortimer said.Tim Mortimer left on Saturday to be part of the Eels’ end-of-year celebrations at Las Vegas and will head over to France from the US.http://www.centralwesterndaily.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/tim-says-bonjour-to-french-chance/1967189.aspx

    Be safe dude
  • WHY WHY !@#$ can't this be DANIEL mortimer, not tim.

If only Daniel mortier left, our club will be so good without him.
  • All these Dan haters yet in 2009 along with haynsey you were all thinking wow thank christ he is with us and we have found our halves problem. he has a bad second season like so many others have had i.e. joey and you want to crucify him. Give the kid a break and a good off season and he will be back bigger and better with a better 1/2

    BTW good lucky timmy
  • I've never bragged mortimer on how gd he was last year. What has he even done that was good? Except pick up the scraps and feed off hayne?
