Thurston cleared to face Parramatta

Cowboys captain Johnathan Thurston has passed his fitness test and will make an early return from a calf injury to face the Eels on Friday night in Townsville.

The benchmark playmaker was meant to be out for three to four weeks after tearing his calf against the Tigers, however, the Cowboys medical staff have been working overtime to get their star player ready for round nine.

BREAKING: A fella called J Thurston has passed his fitness test - is IN the Cowboys team for tomorrow night! — Tony Adams (@TonyAdams_Moley) April 27, 2017

North Queensland haven't been themselves in Thurston's absence, receiving a wake-up call from the Dragons and escaping with an ugly win against the Knights last weekend.

The side has only managed four wins in the past 14 games without their skipper in the past five years - a mere 30.7 per cent win record.

That stat won't matter when Thurston takes the field against Parramatta who haven't won a game in Townsville since 2010.

The 34-year-old's return will confirm his spot for the Kangaroos in next week's Anzac Test.

  • If you rush up on him and frustrate him you can beat the cowboys. If you let him run, no chance
    • yeah but if you rush up wrong or to slow or to quick he will make you look silly or draw a pen there is no way to make him not have a massive impact

  • Didn't beau Scott shut him down abit last time we played could be wrong
    • Beau Scott is in JT's nightmares after all the times he's destroyed him in Origin.

    • Yep you were correct - picked it before the bookies

  • Beau Scott needs to hit him with everything he's got & see how ready he really is.
