AS EXCLUSIVELY revealed by RLW, the surging Eels are set to announce the signing of strike centre Beau Champion to a one-year deal.

The 27-year-old will help boost the Eels’ outside backs stocks with veteran centre Willie Tonga (Catalan Dragons) and winger Ken Sio (Hull KR) both departing the club at the end of the season to take up Super League deals.

Champion, who has struggled with a wrist injury for much of the 2014 season, has made 105 NRL appearances with stints at South Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast. He also made consecutive appearances for City Origin in 2010 and 2011.

Parramatta Eels Sign Beau Champion

Tue 26th August, 01:45PM

The Dyldam Parramatta Eels are happy to announce the signing of Beau Champion for the 2015 season.

The 27-year-old centre and winger will join the club on a one-year deal after finishing the 2014 season with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

“Beau is a great competitor and athlete, and will be a valuable addition to our side for 2015,” Eels Head Coach Brad Arthur said.

“He will bring back line experience to our team, and maturity to our young squad.”

After starting his career with the Rabbitohs in 2005, Champion also played for the Melbourne Storm and Gold Coast Titans before returning to Souths in 2013.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to come to a club that I believe is on the rise, with a lot of young talent,” Champion said.

“I’m looking forward to the chance to play alongside these young players and be part of the Eels next year.”

Champion has represented City Origin and the Indigenous All-Stars in 2010-11, and has played more than 100 NRL games.

“It’s a great sign for the Eels to have players of Beau’s calibre interested in joining our ranks,” Parramatta Eels CEO Scott Seward said.

“The club is building a squad with depth and balance in key positions, and I look forward to seeing what Beau will bring next season.”

    • We signed Gower on a 1 year deal. He has proven himself and has scored another 2 years. Great motivation to hit the ground running and prove yourself.
    • Very happy that it is only a one year deal. If Beau wants another contract in 2016, he needs to earn it. I will be interested to see how he performs with BA as coach. Would you guys have preferred to retain Sio instead of Champion?
  • stop gap for Izzy

  • Meh.

    • Hope he knows his way to Ringrose Park.

  • This is a great signing - as I said a few weeks ago we were very short on experience in the centres and that's fixed now.

I'm surprised that Champion is only 27 - remember before he's had his injuries he was being touted as an Origin player and we've likely gotten him on a very good contract.

    Very pleased.
