I personally think we oeracheived last year. We punched above our weight at the end with a great outcome for the boys and the club. With our problems winniing away from home last season and the outstanding new additions, have we got the firepower to be top four this year. I know the team has matured 1 more year. Has the coaching staff developed any 'win the big game players'. I know it dosnt sound like it but I am really excited for this season and the team the club has produced.

Good blog don. Did we over achieved! maybe but alot of teams failed to achieve such as bronco's and panthers 2 teams which were surposed to be title contenders. With the additions to our team I believe we are a better side and a more complete team this season. Iam really excited this season which I haven't been in quite along time. Can we win the big 1! possible but we should at least make top 4, anything less would be a failure. Will we make the top 4 or 8 only time will tell and if the players are committed with the right attitude and BA has a goodgame plan. Without all of these I can not see us making the top 8. Fingers crossed and hopefully a great season awaits us.
Sorry Robo, but i think your lost in space. I dont think we over achieved at all, actually i think we under achieved, we had the players to go a bit better then where we finished in the 8. We let ourselves down in a few matches where the boys didnt aim up, lost momentum and didnt gain it back with some blow out scores and some games that we should of won, losing to Newcastle by 14/ Penrith by 6/ Cowboys by 7 and Bulldogs by 6 pointsand Brisbane game by 1 pointgames come to mind, when they were games we should of won, not to mention that Melbourne game. i put that down to lack of experience and a real go forward "Forward Leader". The boys were shown how to win, and if they pick the best parts of their game plus add the year maturity to the young ones, then throw in the new recruits, we have the firepower for sure, we may be missing a James Graham / Jake Trbojevic / Sam Burgess type of forward but I see a prelim final in our near future.
Go Parra
Blue Eel correct me if I am wrong , wasn't Parra one of the wooden spoon favourites before the start of the 2019 season got underway ? If so we were over achievers , by finishing 5th on the ladder . This year eels supporters have higher expectations than last season . It appears that anything less than top 4 finish will dissapoint supporters. As. always I just want Parra to play as hard as possible . The difference this season is that should this team play hard using their skills to best advantage, then they are capable of playing in the grand final . This outcome actually occurring is probably conditional on consistently good performances from the 2 new forwards Campbell - Gillard and Matterson .
Yeah i think a lot of people rated the eels wooden spooners, after the disaster that was 2018. I didnt i thought around the 8 at the beginning of the year / just in or just out, however once i saw the difference in our best games compared to our worst games i thought we under achived in those vital matches. When we played Newcastle / Penrith/ Cowboys/ Bulldogs / Brisbane during the competition proper and lost, I think most people thought at the time that we could win those games and when we saw what we could do to the Tigers win by 50ish, Brisbane semi by 50 ish but loose to Melbounre by 50ish and just fail to win against the other 5 games, I thought we let ourselves down and hence underachived. If we won those 5 games we would of finished 2nd, and those 5 games were not beyond us, most of the eels supporters were dirty that we hadnt because we thought we had a good chance. Thats why i think we underachived.
Because we were favourites to win the wooden spoon, that was other peoples thoughts at the beginning of the year, which their entitled too. just like I think looking back at the year with hindsight, we actually underachieved. And your right this year i think we all have higher expectations, mine for the record is a top 4 finish and a prelim final at the least. Of course i want the grand final but hey. lol
For sure that's understood mate . I have noticed before that a few true supporter members here think it best not to count chickens before they hatch so as to avoid disappointment. I often agree with that theory , however as I watched the last grand final win in 1986 , I do not have forever to wait for the next one so I continue to dream . Lol . Go the mighty eels in 2020!!
hahahha Driza, im with you there.
We have built a great attacking team, probably the best when we're on song and that got us where we got to last year .unfortunately yes our defense and attitude needs a complete overhaul ,not even sure if thats possible but for the sake of 2020 lets hope so.
Our defence & attitude don’t need an overhaul, they just need incremental improvement. That comes with time and repetitions.
I agree Brett.
you say we over acheived last season but don't say why you think we over acheived, is it because we massively under acheived in 2018 after finishing top 4 in 2017?, i would argue with our 2019 roster we finished about where we should have, top 6. Is it because you think we got an advantage with the new stadium?, Home field advantage doesn't exist until you make it exist.
We massively under acheived in 2018, one reason was attitude, another was the fact we didn't improve our roster from 2017. In my opinion we finished around the spot we should have last season and we have improved our roster since then and totally expect a top 4 finish, in fact i think we will finish 2nd on the table in 2020 and we will win a premeirship in the next 2 to 3 seasons, maybe even this season.
Full unicorn ingage.
