Thinking differently and maybe outside of the Box.

I was talking to a mate of mine yesterday who has played a lot of football and he is not a Parra supporter, he like me is now in his seventies and I was talking about the brilliance of Reece Walsh, and we should say neither us particularly like him.

That said my friend John said he is a genuine "x" factor player. In that sense their is no disagreement, but makes the point that we have something close to it in Moses but we use him wrongly.

He uses the example that Walsh and Ponga have both been tried at 5/8 but that they have been limited by the requirements of the position.

He thinks Moses can use his vision and pace better by playing fullback, This makes some sense in that his pace is probably similar to those two but he rarely in this Parra team has the opportunity unless he creates it himself.

This made me think of Brown going to half and Gutho to 5/8 with Moses playing fullback....... I would like to see some discussion on the idea to give us maybe a better chance of opening the game up more from the back. He could also burn a chaser when bringing it back if any opportunity opens, we see Walsh and Ponga do this,

I would also make the point that a lot of the fullbacks into todays game tend to position themselves behind the halves and move into the game from there, I think Moses defence is up to it and he reads the game well wherever he plays. Its accepted by the way that Moses will not be back this year, so this is looking forward to next year.

PS In the World 9's tournament when Meninga coached the Aussies, Moses played in the centres and was the player of the tournament, the room to move being his x factor.

  • Worth considering

  • Not a bad idea considering Moses is one of the fastest in the team. Speed at the back can't hurt...

From my uneducated point of view, my thoughts have been along the lines of shifting Brown to full back and Gutho to centre, but that leaves 5/8 open

    • In respect to that I have been thinking that Penisini may be better suited to 5/8, he has all the attributes and his 2 metres that he lacks in pace to make him an elite centre, would not be such a problem at 5/8.

the other aspect of moving Moses would/could open up a pathway for Sanders?

  • well  some  of the world's  brilliant discoveries have  only  been  unearth  due to  the  fact  there  x factors  have  been  staring at them  all the time throughout many  equations and  formula's outside the so called square pops, like  your  mate John wondering if  Trent Barrett thinks a little outside the square,  speed  a  exciting thing to  have especially when chiming in and  creating an extra man , maybe this  can also apply for  Dylan brown having a  crack at fb position , I too don't  particularly like Walsh  but his youth,  speed and enthusiasm meets his   teams x factors and requirements . was hoping  parra to snare titans young Jayden Campbell to bring our x factors, I fear father time  may jeopardise outside the square  for Moses  looking at  gutherson of late ,  just saying.

  • Been saying it for years, DB could be an awesome FB.

    • I agree, DB to fullback and gutho to 6.

Moses isn't a bad option but I think we rely on his kicking game too much to move him to fullback.  If we did I think gutho could play 7 the same way Nico Hynes does for the sharks..

But none of this shuffling will fix the real problems,  the self first attitude,  the poor defensive structure and poor defensive attitude.

  • Mitch played fullback early in his tigers days he scored a hatrick from fullback.

That been said its not a straight swap maybe in his younger years but now he's to old to make the change.

I'd like to see a x factor fullback at some point just don't know who that will be

  • I don't think we'd need them to change positions, they just need to be interchangeable. I'd like to see Mitch used as the sweep man, particularly on the short side.

  • I would move Dylan Brown to fullback and Gutherson to half starting this week against Easts. Brown has always looked a likely fullback to me and no one will beat him defensively. Gutherson to either 6 or 7 and remains captain and probably leads the team better from there. Maybe we would suddenly look organised in attack and defence. Do I think it will happen? Absolutely not...although Brad did move Chris Sandow from half to fullback at one stage.

  • Well we need to try something different, what we are doing is not working.
