The West Tigers Crossroads

How much longer until the a dicision needs to be made at the tigers. Currently the worst run club in the NRL (just infront of parra) with terrible facilities, always losing, and a divided fan base who's attendences are lacklustre.

The biggest part of all this is the fact that there are too many clubs in Sydney. The west tigers of whom are partially set up in Wentworthville (parramatta) and who many of their juniors grew up in the parramatta area or supported parramatta or went to a school near the parramatta district.

The worst 2 teams in the NRL this season, share a suburb in Sydney and have to divide their juniors up, is not coincidence. Throw in the dogs, and manly (Blacktown) to help the situation.

What would you do if you were running the NRL at the moment. Personally the easiest option is to move the tigers to Campbelltown permantly, change their name and disassociate them with the west or inner west. There's plenty of talent that comes out of Campbelltown, and there needs to be a fully fledged nrl program down there or a team. The likes of Hayne, Folou, Inu, all grew up a stones throw away from each other over there.

I also like the idea of moving them to NZ or Brisbane remarketed, and giving all employees a chance to relocate.

  • think u gotta give them a year or 2 more. imagine they get 4 spoons in a row haha

    • Fair, it'd have to be sumaltaneous with a new team maybe

  • They can't get a 4th spoon. They have Turuva, Luai, Skelton coming in. And all the Fainus and Galvin and all.

They can't do anything anymore lol after that. Who can they sign?

  • I was never convinced on Benji and still am not. Api coaches the team practically. They should improve but Benji will hold them back. I do not see them getting spoon, they have to do better with Luai.

I will say though, watch Galvin sign with Easts for 2026. The kid is a star in the making and Wests have Latu Fainu to pair with Luai so yes they would rather Galvin, it is not a lose everything thing. But he had one eye on a release, then backed off to finish year strong, if they start slow it will happen again and he will actually go.

I do agree they have no identity, they need to make the decision to neglect the Balmain connection. Balmain gives nothing to Wests, Western Suburb division is keeping the club afloat. If anything, put some coin into Campbelltown, have 10 games a year there and 2 at Leichhardt. Done.

Benji, according to Wests fans, is safe. However, i think with Richardson he will give Benji 2025 but he will be on hot seat and Richardson may want his own man for the job eventually.

    • I'd just rebrand them the Campbelltown tigers and get rid of balamain and wenty feeders. Completely disconnect.
I agree I'm not sold on benji but yea he's worth another year or two, only because there have been previous coaches like mag who are very good who couldn't turn the tigs around

  • The NRL won't ever go down the road of kicking teams out or relocating them. They are aware of the damage it did during the rationalisation period. A lot of people are forgetting as well that their NSW Cup team (Western Suburbs) also came last. And I think two year before that, all three grades came last. They are the worst run club in the NRL by far but they are very very slowly making some improvements in terms of recruitment and who is in charge of the club. I think Shane Richardson will turn them around, he turned South Sydney around but it did take a long time. At the end of the day, Wests Tigers were deserved Wooden Spooners this year, they lost nine games in a row at one stage and then seven in a row at another part of the season. It's only their luck that Souths and us were so bad and had such a high injury toll otherwise they would have finished a distant last.
