The Value of Having a Semi!

We have discussed Semi's development as a player and his potential to be a great. We've debated whether he could move to centre or fullback. I'd like to explore his value to the team.Consider our results with Semi missing. We notched a couple of wins but our left edge looked nothing like it does at the moment. Even when Semi returned early from injury that edge did not look as potent with Semi appearing out of sorts and obviously still suffering from his injury. What is it about him?Semi is one of those finishers who turns half chances into tries. Pure and simple. Without doubt, he can be the difference between winning and losing games. His explosion of speed at the end of the quick hands for Parramatta's first try against the Dragons exemplified that. His long distance efforts are matched by only the very best in our game.In a competition where the results are often decided by a couple of points, having a try scoring phenom out wide can be the ace in our pack.I'm not going to deny the importance of the work done inside him. The forwards are laying a great platform and I'm a huge fan of Taka's work.Nonetheless, having a talent like our flying Fijian out wide instills me with a mix of confidence and indeed excitement when the ball comes his way.I'VE GOT A SEMI ........ in my team everyday of the week.

  • Of course I've embarrassed myself by yelling it out at the game!
  • He's got speed, size, power, strength, good hands. Most importantly, he never seems to make mistakes. How often does Semi drop the ball as he's diving for the line or lose control? Pretty much never... that's why he's so exciting. We know if he can get the ball from 10m out, then he's got a good chance of charging through the defence and getting the ball down!

I reckon he's capable of being a bigger club legend than Hayne. Just think about it... Semi stays with us for 10 years, wins a grand final or two and goes down as the greatest winger of his generation. He'll be regarded as greater than Grothe Senior or any other winger from our club. I'm sure he'll win more Dally M medals as winger of the year.

    • He's on track to break burts record for most tries, burt had 124 in 260 odd games semi has 40 in 40

    • Settle down Gower Power, you've got more than a semi there I think
    • Someone's excited.
  • His decisions in defence have improved significantly this year. Make it count when he steams inside to smash the centre or 5/8th
  • Semi needs a pay rise
  • Semi's god. He's a 'semi-god', not a demi-god...best bloody winger we had in decades. Better than Grothe snr and that's saying a lot since Guru was one those wingers I used to model myself on when I was knee high to a whore's teat. Semi is brilliant. More than brilliant. He's a genuis and he gets in there and tackles not stand idly by, scratching at his nut bag. That is why they pass the ball to him because of his speed and his ability of creating a try from nothing. Semi is God! He's a Semi God...son=meone should have that on a banner...'Semi's a Semi-God!'

  • He does! From what I've been told his manager is being a pain in the clubs arse. Japanese rugby are prepared to offer him double the money on what he's on now and his manager would like semi to take it. I've heard the club have threatened legal action and also said any of his other clients will right down on the bottom of the pecking order in terms of players they could sign up in the future. What I've heard could be utter shit so I've taken it with a grain of salt.
  • I agree totally he is pure excitement & it's not just us eel fans that love to watch him play, I have a lot of mates I talk footy all the time with & they rave on about him as much as me. He is always doing the hard yards early in the tackle count out of our red zone, his defense is improving all the time. That try he scored against the Cowboys where we spread in our own 10 he gets away a beautiful offload, gets tackled too the ground 2 players laying on him, yet still gets up & runs another 50 metres just on the slightest chance he mite be needed again, to receive that pass from Robinson & score & amazing try, says everything about the bloke & the work he is prepared to do for his team. As I said before pure excitement. I will add I think Junior Paulo's contribution to our team has boosted us enormously also
