The UK is calling Eels halfBy James Phelps From: The Daily Telegraph August 26, 2009 12:01AM HE'S one of the reasons behind Jarryd Hayne's stunning return to form, but Jeff Robson is in danger of being lost to both the Eels and the NRL.The Daily Telegraph can reveal English Super League clubs are circling the tough No.7 with the Eels yet to make an offer to keep him in the blue and gold next year.Robson has been a big part of the Eels' finals charge with his tough defence and on-field leadership helping the likes of Hayne and Daniel Mortimer shine - but that might not keep the 27-year-old at Parramatta."I would really like to see him stay at Parramatta and help the club's young halves come through,'' said Robson's agent Gavin Orr. "But in today's market it is getting harder and harder for players to survive. The salary cap makes it tough and he is getting interest from other clubs."There aren't many quality halfbacks in the UK and it mightbe something for him to consider.''.Kris Keating and Mortimer have been earmarked as the club's next halves pairing in a move that could force Robson to go to Europe.

  • I hope he will get a good deal, He deserves it.
  • Surely the Eels will make him an offer. Who else would we have as a back up half? Imo I don't think any of the Wenty Boys are good enough to handle the top grade.

Maybe the Eels are waiting for an answer from this Tom Humble bloke first before we offer a contract to Robson, apparently it;s come down to a 3 horse race for Humbles signiture between us, the tigers and Nth Qld.. With the cowboys being favourite because he's from Townsville, plus he's almost garuntedd a first grade spot next season with Bowen out. From all reports, Humble has torn the Qld Cup a new one this season, he is a fullback though can easily slot in at 6, he's also only 20 so looks as if he could have a big future.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.... !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Hmmm I wouldn't invest too much in this Humble bloke. Not yet anyway it would be a big gamble. The Qld Cup is a long way from NRL standard.
    • True but the Qld Cup is also alot better than the NSW Cup.

If he has proven to be the best player in the second best league in Oz, then surely he wouldnt look out of place in first grade?

I still hope we resign Robson though, before we consider Humble, as Robbo has already proven himself and he knows the club and the players.
      • Agreed. For some reason this smells like Thorman (can't remember his first name) from a few years back too much.

But I have been knows to be wrong before haha

  • I would love for us to keep Robson as a backup half but if he can get good dollars you couldn't blame he for going to the UK. Given his present form you'd think he could get up to $150k over there which sounds like its plenty more than we're going to be able to offer him and he's not got a lot of years left.

That said, I don't think his game is going to be suited to the UK. Creative players tend to do a lot better over there, whereas defensive strength is more an asset in the NRL.
  • As I have made clear I am both a fan of Robson and Keating. I am glad though, if we cannot keep him, that it appears as though he has other options!

I am also pleased to see him being referred to as a 'quality half'.

Also, is it just me, but does Robson come across as a really lovely guy? Everytime I have heard him speak he just seems utterly humble and thankful to Parramatta for the opportunities they have given him. It makes me smile.
  • Yes Mary Robson is a good guy and i'll like to see him stay with Parra. Also i heard HULL KR will make a good bid for him

"I do not think they pick Tago. i reckon it is Samrani on that wing, purely based on Ryles picking him there before and playing decent there. Or if he is fit Dunster gets a crack."

"Not next week EA, a few weeks down the track, cant do it this week with Lomax out. But i feel Samrani will do ok, not great but do a job.
Turbo will be picked for NSW, too much noise around it. Him, Jake, DCE and Olakau'atu. "
